WEIGHT ROOM COORDINATOR

JOB SUMMARY

 

Reports to:  Athletic Director              

 

Summary:  Assumes responsibility and obligation for establishing and maintaining a strength and conditioning program for students, ensuring proper training techniques and guidance.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Design and supervise weight training and conditioning programs for all Osage Community School students to include the following:  recreation, in-season, off-season, and pre-season programs.
  • Responsible for the coordination and assignment of supervision duties for the weight room facilities outside of the school day and any time school is not in session (summer months, etc.).
  • Operate and maintain the District’s weight room.
  • Teach strength and conditioning sessions as needed.
  • Responsible for a working relationship with all District Coaching staff.
  • Responsible for coordinated weight training and conditioning programs in coordination with the Athletic Director and Head Coaches.
  • Plan and schedule a regular program of weight training and conditioning practice.
  • Recommend purchase of equipment and supplies as appropriate.
  • Maintain necessary workout schedules and progress charts as needed.
  • Oversee the safety condition of the weight room facility.
  • Enforce discipline and sportsmanship behavior at all times, establish and oversee penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
  • Prepare and submit to the Athletic Director a complete inventory of weight equipment at the end of each fiscal year. 
  • Implements and carries out a schedule of work with the various athletes and teams to ensure equitable use among athletic teams and student recreational use of facility and equipment
  • Demonstrates the understanding and acceptance of similarities and differences among individuals and groups regardless of their age, color, creed, national origin, race, religion, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical attributes, physical or mental ability or disability, ancestry, political party preference, political belief, socioeconomic status or familial status.

  • Effective, professional oral communication and interpersonal skills at a multitude of levels.
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of a variety of sports and at the same time continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the weight lifting and conditioning fields.
  • Ability to recognize sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to follow directions and give directions to others.
  • Ability to work within various degrees of noise, temperature and air quality.
  • Ability to adjust to frequent interruptions; therefore high levels of patience and flexibility are essential.

  • Ability to positively motivate and encourage students.
  • Self-directed with ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously so tasks are completed in a reasonable manner

SPECIFICATIONS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS

  • Holds an Athletic Coach endorsement/certification or other legal credential; and any other associated training requirements therein (i.e. concussion, etc.).
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication.
  • Previous successful weight and/or conditioning training experience highly preferred.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

 

Must have the ability to demonstrate appropriate weight lifting and conditioning skills and techniques to be used by the athletes to participate in their particular sport(s) is highly preferred.  Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds; reaching overhead and outwards, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes up to 50 pounds.  

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Duties are normally performed in a school weight room/gymnasium/athletic field (outdoors)/other such athletic environment.  Lighting is adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by dust or other materials.  Temperature can vary with participation in any number of associated activities.
