Description
The RN Health Educator, will work closely with Advanced Practice Nurse(s), Neurology, Dermatology, Cardiology, Podiatry, Ortho, and Gynecology as well as the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nursing Officer as they rotate through the Clinic setting. The RN hired will perform work assigned by the Chief Nursing Officer and the Diabetes Program Coordinator. They will be responsible for assisting the Program Coordinator in designing, driving, and managing a continuum of care focusing on empowering patients to achieve demonstrable outcomes and self-sufficiency consistent with Diabetes Management, promoting improved Diabetic Care, as well as, promoting Community Health of our Native American people. They will be responsible for work set forth in the Special Diabetes Program for Indians Grant (SDPI) as well as Osage Nation Health System (ONHS) duties as needed. All duties will be performed under the guidance of the Oklahoma Nurse Practice Act as a Registered Nurse.
Qualifications
- Possesses a degree from an accredited school of nursing
- Has an active and unrestricted Registered Nurse License in the state of Oklahoma
- 3 years of RN experience/case management experience in an acute healthcare organization preferred
- Current Basic Life Support required, ACLS preferred
- Must have current NIHSS Stroke Certification, or able to obtain within Thirty (30) days of hire.
- Knowledge of HIPPA and Privacy Act
- Knowledge of acute life-threatening or potentially life-threatening illnesses
- Knowledge of wide variety of medical disorders, normal course of diseases, potential complications and individual therapeutic interventions
- Must be able to respond to unanticipated situations requiring immediate intervention, allocation of limited resources and need for immediate care as perceived by the patient and others
- Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served by applying growth and development principles to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status to identify patient needs and provide the care needed
- Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects, including drug/food interactions and complications of their use
- Ability to develop, implement, evaluate and revise the plan of care to meet the needs of the assigned patient
- Must be able to do considerable walking, bending, lifting, kneeling, pushing and pulling, often more than 50 pounds when helping patients from place to place
- Requires knowledge of common exposure to contagious diseases
- Must be able to deal with exposure to hostile and emotionally disturbed patients, families and visitors
- Must maintain a professional attitude and appearance that positively represents the Osage Nation Health System
- Requires a high level of personal integrity and ethics
- Requires a high level of critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Must always maintain confidentiality
- Requires ability to anticipate needs and follow through to completion tasks regarding patient care, case management and deadlines put forth by funding agency
- Requires good interpersonal communication and teamwork skills
- Requires willingness and ability to learn new skills, including travel to conferences and training sessions
- Requires ability to use Microsoft Office Suite programs
- Must obtain/develop familiarity with Osage Language and Culture
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check
- Must be able to pass drug/alcohol testing
- Must have a valid driver’s license – may be required to drive GSA or Nation vehicles
Salary : $76,400 - $93,100
