Introduction to the Role:
The candidate will join an exciting start-up with a nimble and fast-paced team that is pioneering therapeutics to cure blindness. This role will support cell biology, cell and tissue culture, and cell-based experiments. You will work directly with our scientific team to implement and maintain cell and tissue culture in the context of novel compound development and discovery. This person will contribute to advancing novel drug candidates from discovery into the clinic.
We are based in the vibrant incubator located in San Carlos, CA.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform and optimize routine mammalian cell culture, including maintaining, passaging, seeding, cryopreserving, and expanding cell lines.

Manage cell stock and maintain accurate records, ensuring timely reporting.

Assist in the characterization of cells using standard techniques such as microscopy, ELISA, PCR, and others.

Support the sample collection, and preparation and execution of cell-based and in vitro assays.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assist with experimental setup and execution.

Maintain accurate electronic lab notebook records of protocols, results, and databases and ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols.

Assist with laboratory inventory management, including organizing the storage space, supply ordering, and shipment tracking.

Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Support data collection and data analysis to inform process improvements and workflow optimization.
Required Skills and Background:

Bachelor’s degree in biological science or a closely related field
-
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on laboratory experience in an industry drug discovery/development setting

Extensive hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture is essential, including seeding, maintaining, passaging, and cryopreserving adherent and suspension cells.

Aseptic techniques for handling mammalian cultures are required.

Experience with iPSCs or primary cell lines is a plus.

Hands-on experience with cell-based in vitro assays and functional assays is preferred.

Competency in common molecular biology techniques, such as ELISA, nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, western blotting, and immunocytochemistry, is preferred.

Ability to follow established procedures/protocols precisely.

Proven documentation skills with an emphasis on accurate record-keeping and data management

The anticipated base pay range for this role is $25 – $30/hour plus bonus and comprehensive benefits. Total compensation, including base salary to be offered, is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
