Position Title: Dean of Students
Pay Grade: A-1 Period of Employment: 11 months

Supervised by and/or Reports to: Principal
General Responsibilities: Assist the Principal/designee in fulfilling his/her chief responsibility of promoting the educational well-being of each student in the school. The Dean of Students provides additional supervision and assists other Osbourn administrators regarding the 9-12 educational program.
Essential Duties:

- Assists in interpreting school and division programs, policies and procedures to students, parents, staff and community under the supervision of the principal or their designee.
- Develops and maintains a positive communication system with the community, staff, administration and Superintendent.
- Assists with review of interim student progress reports and instructional planning.
- Supports and facilitates a smooth transition for students between grade levels.
- Supports and participates in positive intervention activities to increase graduation rates, increase student attendance and reduce tardiness issues.
- Assists with supervision of students arriving at school and leaving the school, and provides additional supervision at the discretion of the Principal/designee.
- Assists Assistant Principals with low-level discipline issues and attendance, meets weekly with at risk students, and provides coverage for in-school detentions and after school detentions as needed.
- Provides coverage for special projects and helps with night and weekend activities as needed and assigned.
- Assists with at risk students as directed and needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Possesses leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with secondary students, teachers, parents and administrators.
- Serves as role model.
Requisite Education and Experience:
- Three to five years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level in a culturally diverse school environment required.
- Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with a Postgraduate Professional Certificate endorsement in Administration and Supervision Pre-K-12 preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
