Position Highlights
SUMMARY: The Patient Access Representative is responsible for greeting incoming patients and visitors, performing all patient registration, determining eligibility for all applicable payors, and obtaining timely prior authorization while providing excellent care and service to patients, guests, and fellow employees always.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Previous experience with ICD 10 or CPT coding preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Registers and processes admissions for all patients.
- Determines eligibility for all applicable payers by obtaining prior authorizations from insurers for medical tests, procedures, surgeries, and any other prior authorizations required by the patient’s insurance carrier or Local Coverage Determination (LCD) if needed.
- Appropriately documents prior authorization, provides timely information to the Lead Patient Access Representative regarding the prior authorization process, and communicates information to performing facility, physician, clinic staff and patient and/or patient’s family as necessary.
- Obtains written or verbal informed consents from patients; views nursing charts to verify consent.
- Demonstrates good rapport and cooperative working relationships with administrative staff, all hospital departments, physicians, and co-workers.
- Answers and directs calls as necessary.
- Prepares and enters daily charge tickets.
- Receipts all checks received in mail and prepares daily deposits.
- Completes estimates and communicates with patients regarding payment expectations.
- Assists patients with inquiries regarding insurance and billing questions.
- Remains visible and accessible to staff and patients.
- Scans and files invoices.
