Responsible for aiding the Osceola County Medical Director in the provision of medical direction and oversight of Osceola County Emergency Medical Services system. The duties include but are not limited to direct and indirect medical oversight of Firefighters, EMT's, and Paramedics including scene response, protocol development, quality assurance activities, policy development, disaster response, and education.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides direct and indirect supervision of Firefighters, EMT's and Paramedics during care of patients on the scene of medical emergencies, fires, and natural disasters.
  • Assists in the implementation, monitoring, and oversight of the Medical Quality Assurance (MQA) Program and attend the monthly Quality Assurance committee meetings for the Osceola County EMS System
  • Evaluates and monitors the medical performance of the Osceola County EMS System and individual clinical staff, with emphasis on new providers by way of chart review and call data analysis.
  • Assists in planning for and responding to disasters.
  • Participates in professional and regulatory organizations to maintain up to date knowledge and insight into issues and advances in the field of emergency care.
  • Works with the Medical Director to develop, implement, monitor and periodically revise medically appropriate protocols and procedures for use by the Osceola County EMS System.
  • Provides recommendations pertaining to continuing education credits for Osceola County EMS providers.
  • Develops, implements and monitors the effectiveness of continuing education (CE) for County EMS providers.
  • Available to provide online medical control via telephone, radio or other approved communication means in coordination with the Medical Director
  • Performs on-scene evaluation of EMS providers, constructive feedback and engages in direct patient care as appropriate.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of EMS training programs on as ongoing basis.
  • Conducts research and data analysis to make recommendations for changes to EMS patient care parameters.
  • Performs duties as assigned / necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Education : Graduation from a school of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical

    Education (LCME).

    Experience : Experience in the evaluation and management of acutely ill and injured patients in the out-of-hospital environment. Experience providing EMS medical direction and / or previous faculty appointment in an accredited EMS Fellowship preferred.

    Licenses / Certifications :

  • Medical license issued by the Florida Board of Medicine.
  • Board certification in emergency medicine that is recognized by the Florida Board of Medicine.
  • Board certification or board eligible in Emergency Medical Services.
  • Current ACLS certificate or equivalent as determined in Chapter 64J-1.022, F.A.C.
  • Preferred Professional Memberships :

  • National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP)
  • Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM)
  • Florida College of Emergency Physicians (FCEP)
  • Florida Association of EMS Medical Directors
  • Miscellaneous : Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of prehospital care.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws pertaining to prehospital care.
  • Ability to learn and adhere to the Osceola County inter-local agreement.
  • Ability to learn and adhere to Osceola County EMS Clinical Operating Guidelines and EMS Protocols.
  • Knowledge of the practices and principles of leadership, management and supervision.
  • Knowledge of Incident Command practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of radio and personal communications equipment use and application.
  • Knowledge of computer aided dispatch systems, their use and application.
  • Skill in providing direction for employees to ensure efficient customer service.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with support agencies.
  • Ability to handle conflicts and provide resolutions.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

    Physical Demand : Light

  • 10 pounds maximum lifting.
  • Occasional (up to1 / 3 of the work time) lifting, carrying pushing and pulling.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.
  • Good eye sight for production or safety of self and others.
  • If less lifting is involved, will require significant walking / standing.
  • If mostly sitting is involved, will require push / pull on arm or leg controls.
  • Physical agility is required in kneeling, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Per Diem positions are not eligible for benefits.
