General Description of Duties

Under direction, the purpose of the position is to plan and supervise building and facilities maintenance involving skilled work in various trades disciplines, including but not necessarily limited to, irrigation, carpentry, painting, masonry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing and fabrication. Employees in this classification function in an entry management capacity and are responsible for overseeing maintenance and repair projects of buildings and facilities to ensure employees and general public are provided with environmentally safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient public buildings and systems.

- Plans, schedules and supervises maintenance staff and crews; reviews and inspects the work of employees involved in daily maintenance and service of County buildings, facilities and complexes to ensure high standards of safety and facility maintenance are developed, met and maintained at assigned facilities.
- Coordinates, arranges and supervises the completion of corrective and preventative maintenance in accordance with County operating procedures, practices and financial considerations; ensures major equipment and furnishings are maintained in safe, operable condition and/or arranges for replacement.
- Participates in preparation and administration of maintenance budgets; ensures all functions and programs under charge are performed within established budgetary parameters, to include performing cost control activities, monitoring revenues and expenditures, and ensuring sound fiscal control.
- Performs inspections of work sites to determine if maintenance work is being performed as required and checks for safety hazards.
- Establishes project maintenance systems to identify project time tables and track progress to completion; investigates and defines problem areas, conducts studies and prepares reports recommending solutions or courses of action related to contract administration.
- Attends various meetings regarding service user needs, quality improvement projects and contractual services.
- Maintains operational records and ensures necessary tools, supplies, materials and equipment are available for job completion.
- Performs a variety of supervisory/administrative support duties as it relates to maintenance operations.
- Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.

- Ability to adhere to prescribed routines and practices.
- Extensive knowledge of and ability to utilize materials, methods and equipment used in general maintenance work; extensive knowledge plumbing, electrical, construction equipment.
- Ability to operate various vehicles, trucks, light construction equipment and machinery, and other gasoline and diesel driven motors, e.g., service trucks, forklifts, backhoe, grader, bulldozer, dump trucks.
- Ability to perform duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic.
- Ability to climb, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, sit and stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to work at heights up to 12 feet.
- Ability to work in temperatures exceeding 100 degrees for extended periods of time
- Ability to with stand exposure to dust, mold, fiberglass and various chemicals.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with department management, County employees, and the general public.
