Under direction, this position has the responsibility for daily programming, troubleshooting, maintenance and repairing of automated building systems used to operate and control the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and lighting systems of County-owned buildings. Ensures that building automation systems (BAS) operate as designed and programmed to deliver a safe and comfortable indoor environment for County employees and visitors. Employee performs duties with minimal supervision with thorough knowledge and proficiency gained through training and experience in a diversity of trades work. Performs related work as directed.

The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.- Supports the Facilities Management staff by responding to calls of a BAS controls related nature and performing preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, testing, calibration and other work associated with the maintenance and repair of BAS networks and hardware County-wide.
- Performs preventive and corrective maintenance to the BAS components, performs testing of control and controlled components, replacement of faulty or defective components to include valves, dampers and their respective controllers for electrically controlled systems.
- Investigates BAS systems to ensure appropriate set points and that systems are responding to established set points. Investigate and troubleshoot systems and system components that are not responding appropriately.
- Monitors data trends on HVAC systems to ensure proper operation and performance of equipment and controls. Engage with other trades as necessary to address mechanical, electrical or other problems affecting system performance.
- Performs tune-up, calibration, and maintenance of HVAC controls systems to include chillers, air handlers, variable air volume equipment, fan powered units, etc.
- Updates and corrects deficiencies within the BAS to increase the energy efficiency of the facility and provide options and alternatives that may improve the overall BAS performance.
- Makes recommendations on energy reduction opportunities through automation controls.
- Works with programs such as Trane Tracer to program and optimize HVAC control systems.
- Participates in technical review sessions related to the selection, purchase and installation of new BAS systems and equipment used in new construction or modifications to existing facilities.
- Responds to emergency situations to confine, resolve or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions as directed.
- Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: Three (3) years responsible experience in HVAC control technologies or building automation controls field and a demonstrated ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the work.
Miscellaneous: Must possess an EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) Universal License
Must possess a Valid Florida Driver's License
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

- Working knowledge of packaged control systems such as Trane Tracer Ensemble or its industry equivalent.
- Ability to proficiently read mechanical, electrical and controls blueprints.
- Ability to perform duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic.
- Ability to climb, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, sit and stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work at heights up to 12 feet.
- Ability to work in temperatures exceeding 100 degrees for extended periods of time
- Ability to withstand exposure to dust, mold, fiberglass, and various chemicals.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with department management, County employees, and the public.
