What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Medical Assistant / Certified Nursing Assistant (Per Diem) position at Osceola County?

Under direct supervision, renders general patient care to inmate patients in a Correctional Facility to promote the physical and mental health of the inmate population.(Note: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)
Preferred:
Phlebotomy certification or recent job-related experience in phlebotomy
Physical Demand Requirements:
Under direct supervision, renders general patient care to inmate patients in a Correctional Facility to promote the physical and mental health of the inmate population.(Note: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. - Assists with direct patient care, such as obtaining vital signs, wound care, collecting blood, urine, sputum and stool specimens, and gathering other subjective and objective data from patients to ensure needs are met in accordance with clinical guidelines, as well as duties imposed by the State and Federal laws and regulations and OCCD administrative procedures.
- Triages the patient prior to visit with the provider.
- Prepares charts or obtain records prior to visit with the provider.
- Performs routine procedures under established protocols to include phlebotomy, EKG’s, intramuscular injections, etc.
- Assists the provider with procedures.
- Maintains the list of all patients enrolled within a specialty clinic and ensures scheduling of patient appropriately.
- Tracks and schedules appointments for non-emergent clinic based on prior triage of patient by nursing or clinician.
- Accurately documents all data obtained, treatments, specimens collected and sent for processing as well as any other patient encounter. Administer all medications and recording such on-medication administration record.
- Order medications and supplies from the pharmacy and suppliers.
- Verify all orders from the medical records were properly transposed to the orders/tasks within the electronic medical record and medication administration record. Maintain electronic medical record files on all inmates. File all necessary medical reports in the patient’s medical record.
- Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must have completed a CMA/CNA program.
- Must have current hands-on CPR certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI)
Preferred:

- Working knowledge of normal/routine healthcare practices.
- Must be able to work with people from all walks of life.
- Must be able to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to accurately follow simple medical orders.
- Knowledge of all applicable medical treatments provided within a corrections facility.
- Ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications; ability to read, update and maintain various records and files.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment, e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
- Ability to perform duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic; ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with inmates, health, and corrections professionals.
Physical Demand Requirements:
- Physical Demand: Medium
- 50 pounds maximum lifting.
- Frequent (up to 2/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying up to 25 lbs.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.
- Good eyesight for production or safety of self and others.
- Physical demand requirements are more than light work.
