Summary :
Under the clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse and the direction of the shift lead this role will assist with preparing patients for surgery as well as preparing and turning over pre-operative rooms, the procedure room, and operating rooms as assigned.
Working directly under the supervision of the Endoscopist, this role supports and assists physicians and registered nurses with procedures as directed. Verifying proper equipment function and performing safety checks. Maintaining and / or repairing endoscopic equipment. Collecting and delivering specimens collected during procedures, while maintaining a sterile field.
Typical Schedule :
Weekdays; 10 Hours Shifts; Flexed morning start times, ranging from 0600 to 0830.
Qualifications :
Certified from an accredited Nursing Assistant program recognized by the State of Wisconsin, required.
Current BLS, required.
Graduate of an accredited surgical tech, endoscopy tech or instrument tech program, preferred.
Specialized training / education in gastroenterology, preferred.
Endoscopy and / or Operating Room experience and knowledge of equipment and maintenance, preferred.
Primary Responsibilities :
Transporting patients to and from the operating room.
Assisting with patient transfers on and off the operating room table.
Assisting with positioning as advised.
Assisting with operating room turnover between cases.
Gathering operating room equipment and positioning devices as needed.
Cleaning and returning equipment to the correct storage location.
Restocking basic operating room and anesthesia supplies.
Accessing medications or IV solutions only as required to perform normal job duties following all state and federal regulations regarding medication and IV solution security.
Staging team case carts and equipment as advised.
Checking and recording OR / Procedural room temperature and humidity and reporting discrepancies.
Checking and recording patient refrigerator temperature and reporting discrepancies.
Maintaining knowledge of, and complying with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
Actively participating in creating and implementing improvements.
Performing other responsibilities as needed / assigned to include but not limited to :
Cross training of minimal registration, charge capture, and billing duties.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic EMR knowledge
Knowledge of policies and procedures for the safe handling of contaminated waste.
Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
Skilled in oral and written communication.
Skilled in customer service concepts and practices
Skilled in identifying safety issues and notifying OR leadership.
Skilled in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meeting deadlines.
Skilled in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.
Stays current on endoscopy developments by reading literature, speaking with providers, and / or participating in professional growth opportunities such as certifications in related fields.
