Position Details

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

The Intervention Teacher will plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in a secondary learning environment which coordinates Intervention and Academic Support Tier II and Tier III services and resources in reading and / or math for assigned students identified through the school’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process and communicate with parents and classroom teachers

  • Administer assessments and / or tests for the purpose of assessing assigned students’ competency levels.
  • Advise parents and / or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement, and / or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Monitor students’ progress on a bi-weekly basis and distribute monthly progress reports to the home.
  • Develop individual student plans, soliciting and leveraging input from classroom teachers and other staff which provide targeted student assistance.
  • Plan a program of academic support which meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of assigned students.
  • Instruct and monitor assigned students in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Deliver district approved intervention curriculum, ensuring compliance with Federal and State guidelines for grant funded academic services.
  • Create and foster an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons / projects and communicates these objectives to students.
  • Evaluate pupil’s academic and social growth.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development and prepare progress reports, keeping record of required documents for students on assigned caseload.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the policies and disciplinary systems of Oscoda Area Schools.
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations.
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities, including, but not limited to PARs or Time Certification based on FTE / percentage of grant funding.
  • Make available district provided learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  • Manage student behavior during transition times and before and after school as assigned.
  • Support Paraprofessionals who have been identified to provide academic support through assistance in planning and implementing intervention lessons.
  • Actively participate in a variety of district meetings including those that are mandatory.
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls, and answer emails
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, club and student organizations as directed.
  • Provide supervision of students, as designated and assigned.
  • Act in a professional supervisory capacity when interacting with or observing students and student behavior.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree and a valid MI Teaching Certificate bearing a Secondary Grade Level (9-12) Endorsement
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • 3years’ experience as a certified teacher in Michigan
  • Master’s degree in Reading and / or Math
  • Special Education Degree

  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on school curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of assigned students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and the community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage time, space, and resources in an orderly and organized fashion.
  • Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of the school, district, and state.
  • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
