The Laser Operator plays a critical role in our manufacturing process, responsible for setting up and operating the NC controlled multi-axis laser. This vital position involves performing precise cutting actions on parts, ensuring they meet the required specifications and drawings. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate inventory of material within your control and the organization of materials.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Analyze drawings, specifications, sketches, existing programs, and related technical data to determine the optimal settings and adjustments needed for precise part cutting.
- Interpret CNC programs to ascertain hole sizes, reference points, and machine cutting paths.
- Input additional instructions, including power, frequency, wave type, gas pressure, gas type, speed rates, and starting point coordinates, as required.
- Conduct a trial run of the NC laser at low speed, without the beam, to verify program accuracy.
- Make necessary adjustments to CNC controls to rectify malfunctions or out-of-tolerance parts.
- Use the keyboard to modify NC code and revise the NC program for accurate cutting paths.
- Inspect the first-run piece and spot-check succeeding pieces, ensuring compliance with specifications as per the procedure.
- Accurately recording transactions for material on lot cards or job traveller and in the ERP system.
- Receiving in materials for Sheet stock and storing the material in a manner that will prevent damage or lost of value.
- Effective communication skills exhibiting OE Values and Behaviours.
- Working knowledge of OE Company Handbook, QE procedures and Safety Policies.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Proficiency in applying basic mathematical concepts for measurements and calculations.
- Capacity to understand and follow instructions presented in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Aptitude for problem-solving involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
- Strong ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, ensuring production targets are achieved.
- Effective task management and the ability to prioritize workflow, contributing to efficient manufacturing processes.
- Basic computer skills to navigate business systems.
- Experience using business systems such as SAP, Epicor, Oracle, or D365.
- Strong multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize workflow effectively.
- Attention to details in data entry to the ERP system for inventory transactions and clocking into jobs to accurately record time on the job.
- Good organization skills for managing stocked material to prevent loss or damage.
- Working knowledge of programming codes for laser operation and ability to make adjustments.
- Laser equipment maintenance and trouble shooting knowledge.
- Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
- Six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
