Travel required for Epic training to Epic HQ in Verona, WI. Other travel may be required within region position is located in.
Remote Work option - This person will work their first 90 days in the office. If there is completion of successful 90 day evaluation, this person will have the opportunity to work 8 days per month in the office and the rest from home.
Salary range for this position is $87,900-$124,529; Actual pay is based on years of licensure.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Nursing Informatics Specialist is responsible for the design of clinical information solutions specifically as it applies to nursing applications to enable the delivery of safe, effective, and high quality patient care. In similar fashion, leads information technology innovations, deployment, and optimization efforts based on the organization’s clinical performance improvement objectives. Provides clinical subject matter expertise to translate data into information and actionable knowledge in the daily nursing and clinical practice. Works in partnership with Information Technology leadership and staff to translate clinician requirements into specifications for clinical information systems, to identify and prioritize system enhancements, and to redesign work flow in clinical areas. In support of department leadership, researches and recommends new applications and solutions for strategic and tactical clinical needs. Recommends and manages interventions to increase the acceptance and adoption of clinical applications and to encourage the use of information technology in the direct provision of care. Serves as a key liaison to nursing executives and the clinical user community by providing direction and education on clinical information initiatives.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY:
• Responsible for facilitating the design of clinical information solutions including nursing applications to enable the delivery of safe, effective, and high quality patient care.
• Leads a portfolio of information technology project efforts based on the organization’s clinical performance improvement objectives.
• Works collaboratively with Information Technology leadership and staff to translate clinician requirements into specifications for new clinical systems and to evaluate and to implement system enhancements or work flow redesign in all clinical areas.
• Functions as a clinical subject matter expert to effectively translate data into information, and apply knowledge in clinical practice.
• Provides thought leadership and facilitates the integration of nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, and knowledge in clinical practice.
• Provides general direction for clinical information systems installation and upgrade projects.
• In partnership with Director of Informatics, researches and recommends new applications and solutions for clinical needs.
• Recommends and manages interventions to increase the acceptance and adoption of clinical applications and to encourage the use of information technology in the direct provision of care.
• Helps to foster a culture of evidence based practice through the application of information technology to support effective clinical decision making. Ensures that clinical documentation systems support clinical care and practice.
• In partnership with provider, nursing, and pharmaceutical experts, coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing, provider, and ancillary services documentation tools, structured documentation, clinician order entry process, reporting templates, clinical decision support, and online care management.
• Serves as a key liaison to the nursing executives and the clinical user community by providing direction and education on clinical information initiatives.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education required is BSN
Experience: Three years progressively responsible clinical nursing work experience
Licensure/Certifications – Registered Nurse, licensed to practice in the State of Illinois
Epic certifications are required for role must be obtained within a 6 month timeframe from date of hire and limited to 3 test attempts per certification.
Other skills or knowledge: Clinical Information Systems. Demonstrated ability to be self-directed with excellent organizational, analytical, writing, and interpersonal skills. Ability to learn new technology quickly, respond quickly to urgent issues, and adapt to changing environment. Demonstrated competence in presentations and other public speaking skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary to communicate effectively with users. Strong customer service skills. Ability to facilitate process design activities across departmental boundaries.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education - MSN in Nursing Informatics
Experience: Five years in clinical setting and with information services or working with computer services. Experience with information system implementation and support, preferably in healthcare industry.
Other skills or knowledge o Proficient in Microsoft suite of product and related software.
