The hourly rate for this position is $17.00/hour This is an Hourly position.
Overview
This internship is available to an interested student that can commit to working a summer only internship. The internship would start May 27th and run through the beginning of August with a tentative end date of August 8th (this end date is subject to change).
Work location of this internship will be at the JUMP Simulation and Education Center in Peoria, IL. Interested students must be willing to work during the summer in Peoria, IL as the internship will not offer the option to work remote
POSITION SUMMARY: Interns will study and establish connections between the OSF Cancer Institute and patients identified by OSF Nutrition Services, with the goal of developing a prototype pilot program for integrating comprehensive nutritional support into cancer care. This initiative will focus on addressing the “final mile” in delivering accessible, sustainable, and personalized nutrition solutions for cancer patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Needs Assessment: Evaluate current gaps in nutrition services for cancer patients and identify barriers to access.
- Program Design: Develop a pilot model for integrating nutrition services with oncology care, incorporating culinary medicine and regenerative agriculture concepts.
- Community & Institutional Linkages: Establish partnerships with Spence Farm’s Down on the Farms initiative, Think Regeneration, and OSF’s broader health equity efforts.
- Implementation Strategy: Create a roadmap for the “final mile” delivery of nutritional support, including meal access, patient education, and clinical integration.
- Evaluation Metrics: Design measurable outcomes to assess the impact of the pilot program on patient well-being and adherence to nutritional guidelines
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Student currently enrolled in a college or university working towards an undergraduate degree in public health, nutrition, healthcare or other related field
Other Skills/Knowledge: Understanding of oncology nutrition and its role in patient recovery and quality of life. Ability to analyze social determinants of health affecting cancer patients’ access to nutrition
