What are the responsibilities and job description for the Procedural Coder position at OSF HealthCare?
Expected pay for this position is $22.90 /hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Procedural Coder is responsible for assigning and sequencing diagnostic and procedural codes for designated service line. Utilizes coding manuals effectively for selection of most appropriate code assignment and reimbursement according to existing guidelines as established by Medicare, Medicaid, or any other payor. Educates and audits new and established providers regarding coding and documentation guidelines as well as compliance standards. Dedicated point of contact to support patients through the health system regarding billing questions, medications and testing, completing insurance appeals, and assisting with financial assistance for charity care programs. Collaborates closely with specialty services navigators prior to service when coverage/authorization problems are identified in addition to denied claims.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School/GED Other Licenses/Certifications: AHIMA CCS-P or AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC). Must achieve nationally recognized Revenue Cycle certification within 1 year of hire Experience: One year experience in assigning professional service codes as related to physician practices. Must be able to work with external organizations in order to solve complex problems. Experience with Electronic Medical Record systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Associate degree in healthcare or business Experience: Expertise in applying payer policy, Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs), and National Coverage Determinations (NCDs) for successful claim submissions using interpersonal relationship skills. Two years of working knowledge of the revenue cycle including scheduling, registration, financial clearance, denials and appeals processes, regulatory issues, insurance functions and terminology. Experience using Encoder software. Advanced computer skills, PC experience w/ Windows-based applications.
