What are the responsibilities and job description for the Day Camp Lead Counselor/Waterfront Supervisor position at Oshkosh Community YMCA?
As the Lead Counselor, you'll take on a pivotal role in providing direct guidance to staff and campers during their immersive camp experience. We are seeking a passionate, organized, and energetic individual to help lead our team of counselors and provide an unforgettable and safe summer for campers and staff alike. Workdays: Hours vary Monday–Friday between 6:30AM-6:30PM; program operates June 9–August 29. Staff training is May 30th and June 2–6. Staff must be available to work all 12 weeks of the program and be in attendance for all training dates. (Time off for vacations may be granted)
Hours per Week: Full Time (up to 40 hours per week) Staff are required to work 2 out of 3 campouts over the summer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide direction and supervision of camp activities with camper group
- Lead staff in problem solving, program development, and program delivery
- Assist in the development and administration of camp programming
- Assist in maintaining appropriate records and ratios as required by DCF252
- Assist other counselors with camper behavior challenges
- Establish and enforce a method for supervising children in the water (can be found in camp policy manual)
Other Duties:
- Attend family nights and sleepovers
- Maintain a clean and safe camp
- Assist in the upkeep of the property, program supplies, and animals
- Coordinate the use of all supplies and equipment
- Other duties assigned by the Day Camp Site Camp Director or Youth & Family Director
- Must have prior camp experience or experience working with children.
- Must have successfully completed high school.
- Must be 18 years old or older
- Lifeguard Certification (preferred)
- Be creative, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and outgoing with ability to think independently
- Abusive Head Trauma Training (within 30 days of employment).
- Child Abuse Prevention Training (within 30 days of employment).
- Bloodborne Pathogens Training (within 30 days of employment).
- CPR/First Aid/AED Training (within 30 days of employment).
- Ability to lift 75lbs.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to ride a bike, climb stairs, and go swimming.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.
