The Quoting Engineer will assist with selling complex scientific and technological products or services in our quoting department. Responsibilities
● Develop accurate labor cost estimates for wire harness projects based on customer requirements and specifications.
● Analyze and evaluate labor requirements, including time, skills, and number of workers needed for each manufacturing process.
● Prepare detailed labor cost breakdowns and quotations for customers.
● Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents to understand project scope and labor requirements.
● Identify and assess labor-intensive components and processes to ensure accurate labor cost estimation.
● Utilize hands-on experience in wire harness manufacturing to provide realistic and achievable labor estimates.
● Understand and incorporate manufacturing processes, including cutting, crimping, soldering, and assembly techniques, into labor calculations.
● Optimize manufacturing processes to reduce labor costs and improve efficiency.
● Collaborate with design, engineering, production, and procurement teams to ensure labor estimates align with project goals and timelines.
● Provide input on project budgets and financial planning.
● Monitor labor costs throughout the production cycle and adjust estimates as necessary.
● Identify opportunities for labor cost reduction and process improvement within the wire harness manufacturing process.
● Implement lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies to enhance labor efficiency.
● Stay informed about industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in labor estimation and manufacturing. This includes staying updated on AutoCAD developments and best practices for cable harness design.
● Communicate effectively with customers to clarify requirements and provide detailed labor cost breakdowns and justifications.
● Address customer inquiries and concerns related to labor estimates.
● Support sales and business development teams in preparing competitive bids and proposals. Including providing technical input during client negotiations to ensure realistic project timelines and costs.
● The position typically involves working in both office and manufacturing floor environments.
Requirements
● Proven experience in wire harness manufacturing and labor estimation, preferably in the automotive, aerospace, or industrial sectors.
● Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
● Proficiency in labor estimation software and tools.
● Knowledge of CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and electrical design tools.
● Understanding of industry standards and regulations related to wire harness manufacturing (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620E, ISO 9001).
● Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
● Strong project management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
● Effective communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders across departments to unsure project success.
● Experience with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies. (Preferred)
● Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems. (Preferred). Experience with AutoCAD for cable harness design is strongly preferred.
Education
● Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
