What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Welfare Examiner position at Oswego County?
Oswego County Social Services has immediate openings for Social Welfare Examiners to assess need for, and determine eligibility for, various programs administered by the Oswego County Department of Social Services as well as participate in a team-based management process to assist the customer in identifying alternatives to dependence on assistance. The work involves assignments in connection with determining financial eligibility, categorical classification, continued financial eligibility, and income maintenance. Social Welfare Examiners directly interview applicants and review and evaluate applications and records.
Qualifications: Completion of 60 semester credit hours; OR Two (2) years of experience in examining, investigating, or evaluating claims for assistance, veteran's or unemployment benefits, insurance, or a similar program operating under established criteria for eligibility. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate to the vehicles operated or otherwise demonstrate their ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
This title has been approved to be filled without the need to take an exam for a limited period through the HELP Program. Candidates appointed permanently to this title will NOT need to take an exam and will remain in their position even when the HELP program ends.
Pay Rate: $23.12 per hour plus competitive benefits package including: health, life, dental and vision insurance; NYS Retirement; and Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
