Job Summary: Central sterile staff primary focus is to reprocess reusable medical devices for the Oswego Health system. Central sterile works closely with the operating room to ensure instruments are reprocessed and prepared for surgery. We work in a faced paced environment where we are often on our feet and have to make quick decisions. As a part of the team communication is essential as well as helping each other out. Often times central sterile staff have to make critical decisions and maintain composure in urgent and emergent situations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Oversee the decontamination, cleaning and sterilizing of surgical, endoscopic and diagnostic instrumentation/ equipment.
- Oversee the general daily operation and maintenance of all sterilizers in the Central Sterile Supply Department and the Surgical Suite.
- Properly follow manufacturer recommendations for cleaning/ sterilization of their products.
- Assist Central Sterile Supply Manager in developing in-services for the Central Sterile Supply Department.
- Orders, monitors and reports discrepancies in products ordered, to the Central Sterile Supply Manager.
- Responsible for the ordering of inventory and non-inventory items for the Central Sterile as needed or assigned, provide assistance to all units as requested.
- Reports any product related problems to the Central Sterile Supply Manager.
- Make sure PCD Spores are ran on the steam sterilizers daily, and Spores daily with the V-Pro Sterilizer and the Steris System One Processor. Properly document this and reports any unexpected positive results to the Central Sterile Supply Manager.
- Document patient equipment usage by using the equipment control log and report any variances to the Central Sterile Supply Manager.
- Monitor and make sure that computer generated orders are closed daily and follow up with Purchasing to make sure that all orders are closed out by the end of the month.
- Assist in the orientation program for all new employees.
- Knowledgeable and Participatory of the Departmental QA Monitors.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships and promote positive attitude.
- Performs other related duties as requested.
Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific):
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Proficient in typing and basic computer knowledge required.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to multi task.
- Abie to prioritize tasks in a fast pace environment.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required. Certified or eligible to be certified in Central Service field.
Must Obtain Certified technician certificate within one year of being hired from either HSPA or CBSPD.
Must maintain certification during the length of employment.
Working Conditions:
Ability to coordinate and trouble shoot multiple demands on time. Requires prolonged standing and/or bending at times. Have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed. Possible exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to a health environment.

Pay Range:$17.00-$22.20/hour
Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
