Job Summary:
The Licensed Practical Nurse works under the direction and supervision of the Physician or patient care provider and the general direction of the Director of Physician Practice Management, or their designee, in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of Physician Care and established professional standards. Provides primary and/or specialty care to patients of all ages. Effectively interacts with patients and healthcare members, while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning, providing, and evaluating patient care as a member of the Health Care Team, strictly adhering to principals of asepsis and infection control guidelines when performing patient care.
- Supervise the care of patients with direct accountability to RN charge nurse or supervisor; Collaborate with RN in development of nursing care plan.
- Observe patients for reactions to drugs, treatments, signs and symptoms, or other unusual conditions and immediately reports to charge nurse.
- Utilize the chain of command to assist in resolution of unit, staff and patient concerns.
- Record all patient care provided in a precise and detailed manner following established procedures for charting.
- Use computer programs per policy and procedure as assigned.
- Administers medication in accordance with policies/procedures/standards of care and legal limitations.
- Administration of specific medication, including appropriate documentation.
- Ability to prepare and administer medications via all acceptable routes.
- Assemble, use and maintain required equipment.
- Regularly check emergency equipment per office policy.
- Maintain proper level of stock and emergency supplies as unit requires.
- Assist patients in ambulation; transports patients. Demonstrate a concern for patient safety; utilizes proper techniques of body mechanics.
- Follow principles of asepsis and infection control for routine cleaning and sterilization of equipment and supplies.
- Give and receive report per department-specific policy.
- Communicate respectfully with patients; promptly respond to patient needs or requests; demonstrate supportive and understanding behavior when in contact with patients and/or family members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific):
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as active listening skills.
- Ability to provide superior patient experience in an office setting is required.
- Ability to create superior patient experiences while generating positive guest relations in an office setting is required.
- Ability to work effectively and communicate effectively in a team environment; continuously looking for solutions to improve patient care.
- Proficiency in medication administration and practiced phlebotomy skills.
- Ability to cost-effectively manage use of resources and supplies.
Education and Experience:
- Current license in New York State.
- Maintenance of current certification in CPR.
- 1 year of experience in a medical office setting preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Requires department specific orientation.
- Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling beds, wheelchairs and recliners in excess of approximately 200 pounds with assistance. Requires lifting, carrying, repositioning, and transferring patients using proper body mechanics.
- Position requires attendance, as scheduled, to ensure requirements are met.
- Requires assembling, operating, checking, and maintaining equipment.
- Requires attending meetings as well as participation on committees as required.
- Actively participates in in-service programs, in Quality Assurance programs and CQI, cross-training; attends all mandatory classes as required; completes unit-specific competencies.
- Occasionally requires assignments to other clinical/shifts as needed.
- Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations.
- Maintain confidentiality in all patient, hospital, and physician-related information; demonstrate complete discretion when discussing patient information.
Pay Range: $23.25-$27.90/hr.
Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
