What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Program/Education Director position at Oswego YMCA?
General Functions:
This position supports the work of the Oswego YMCA, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Education/Family Program Director will lead, develop and launch activities that bring youth, caregivers and families closer together, encourage good health and foster connections through various activities and shared interests. This position develops, organizes, and implements programs based on meeting the community needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
∙ Oversee the Family/Educational Program Staff.
∙ Oversee supervision of all program participants within the YMCA Family/Educational Programming Department.
∙ Design and implement Family Programming, activities, and events for kids between the ages of 1-12 years old.
∙ Community Outreach – Collaborate and participate with other agencies as opportunities present themselves.
∙ Organize and implement Healthy Kids Day and other Y initiatives for kids and families.
∙ Establish positive relationships with any parents, children, volunteers, and other staff members; be a positive role model.
Family
∙ Develops new programs, events, or services that meet the needs of the community and that are aligned with strategic goals of fostering core relationships between participants; staff to caregivers/child, child to child, caregiver to caregiver, caregiver to child.
∙ Ensures a variety of program offerings including but not limited to physical activity, arts, dance, sports and games, etc. for a wide range of age groups birth to 13 years old.
∙ Welcomes current and new family members and provides support in aligning their needs with programs and services.
∙ Secures appropriate staffing for programs and provides coverage when needed.
∙ Securing and scheduling the needed facilities; and creating and scheduling the classes, activities or events.
∙ Develops and monitors the program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
∙ Models’ relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships internally and externally to include community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
∙ Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed, in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
∙ Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
∙ Oversees scheduling and staffing Birthday Partys
Preschool
∙ Make flyers and brochures, keep up to date
∙ Update registration forms and Provide copy to Membership Administrator for processing.
∙ Advertise and Market for program.
∙ Make attendance sheet and sign in/out sheets.
∙ Make copies of completed registration forms so teachers have a set and director has a set
∙ Handle petty cash and receipts for items needed to purchase
∙ Maintain class dojo page to communicate with parents.
∙ This includes adding updates and making sure class list is up to date, parents have the code to access.
∙ Announce snow days/cancellations
∙ Assisting with parent/teacher meetings if necessary
∙ Reserving space/rooms needed for Pre-K programming.
Summer Mini Camps
∙ Plan all summer camps including theme, staffing, day/time, reserving space, pricing, advertising.
∙ Keep track of registration forms, make sure minimums are met.
∙ Purchase all supplies needed for camps
∙ Make attendance sheets and sign outs, make sure instructors have them ahead of time
∙ Give out parent surveys the day before the last day of camp
Other Duties
∙ Create a financial budget and implement and maintain.
∙ All other duties required of a director (payroll, staff meetings, director meetings, helping with events, etc)
∙ Provide outstanding customer service by addressing customers concerns and implementing feedback.
∙ Maintain an adequate stock of supplies for programming staff to use.
∙ Be familiar with programs and special events throughout the facility and encourage families to participate.
∙ Actively support and participate in YMCA functions.
∙ Substitute for staff when needed.
∙ Actively pursue training and learning opportunities and certifications/trainings relating to the position; maintain current certifications required by the position.
∙ Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Experience and Education:
∙ 1-2 years of education, work or volunteer experience working with children ages birth - to 18 years old.
∙ Four-year college degree preferred

∙ Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are critical to the success of this position.
∙ Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously with minimal direction.
∙ Possess and demonstrate excellent customer service, decision-making, problem solving, team oriented, creative thinking, and leadership skills.
∙ Ability to read, interpret and effectively communicate and document information and instructions such as safety rules, membership procedures, customer service, YMCA promotion and programs, and YMCA policies and procedures etc., train and instruct other staff members; and solve problems and take a leadership role in handling a variety of situations, problems, issues and/or complaints from members.
∙ Brings to this position maturity, responsibility and a sincere interest in working with people of all ages.
∙ Ability to observe confidentiality.
∙ Able to work a flexible work schedule to include evenings and weekends.
Trainings & Certifications:
∙ Must complete and pass on-line training in the suggested timeframe.
∙ Must attend and complete YMCA Child Abuse Prevention within the first 90-days of employment.
∙ Must complete and/or attend any other trainings required by the Y and/or Executive Director.

Physical Demands:
Ability to frequently sit, use his/her hands and fingers, stand, walk, reach, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel, and climb. Ability to lift and/or carry and move up to 35 pounds (occasionally this could be more). Specific vision abilities required: close, color, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
Duties are performed in a warehouse setting; at times Skate Park employees may be exposed to undesirable working conditions, communicable infectious diseases, and the risk of injury from children. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to above average
