Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing assistance and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. The DSP will work closely with clients in various settings, including assisted living facilities, group homes, and nursing homes, ensuring their daily needs are met while fostering a supportive environment.
Duties
- Assist clients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance clients' well-being.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client’s specific needs and preferences.
- Ensure a safe and clean environment by maintaining hygiene standards and assisting with light housekeeping tasks.
- Support clients in participating in recreational activities and community engagement.
- Document client progress and any changes in behavior or health status in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate care and address any concerns regarding client health or safety.
- Lift and assist clients as needed while ensuring their comfort and safety during transfers.
Skills
- Experience in assisted living, senior care, or working in a group home setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of first aid procedures and emergency response protocols.
- Familiarity with working with individuals on the autism spectrum is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of direct support practices and person-centered care approaches.
- Ability to adhere to HIPAA regulations to protect client confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members.
- Physical ability to lift clients safely and perform necessary cleaning tasks within the living environment.
