Software Engineering Part-time Co-op
Role Overview:
Otis is the world's leading company for elevator/escalator manufacturing, installation and service. We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Software Engineering part time co-op to join our team at our Farmington, CT lead design center. This co-op offers opportunities to gain practical experience and develop your skills in a collaborative learning environment, under the mentorship of our software engineers. During this co-op you will be an integral part of a team that solve real problems and report to the Lead Design Center – Farmington Software Manager. It is expected that while you are in this position that you are attending classes during the school year and are available to work full time during the summer internship timeframe.
On a typical day you will:
Learn, design, develop, test and maintain tools that support the Otis Software Process or interface with our embedded software applications for elevator and interfaced embedded devices
Work with Otis developed and 3rd party tools/hardware
Follow the Otis Software Process to ensure delivery of high-quality software
Utilize software tools such as Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, IDEs, etc.
Collaborate with engineers on planning and execution, both locally and worldwide
Work in the Farmington office multiple days per week up to 20 hours/week with some remote flexibility
What You Will Need to be Successful:
Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, software engineering or related field
Strong collaboration and empathy skills with a passion for developing and testing software
Be imaginative, a smart risk taker, a self-motivator and open to learning from retrospection and feedback
Excellent problem solving and attention to detail skills
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work as an individual and in a global team environment
Experience with C or C or an equivalent programming language
Working towards a degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or similarly related degree
Familiarity with developing software on a physical hardware device
Familiarity with trouble-shooting software
Familiarity with Atlassian tools and agility
Familiarity with .Net Visual Studio and C#
