Job Summary:
Careerline Tech Center, Holland MI is seeking a dedicated and motivated Culinary Program Paraprofessional to support the instructional and operational needs of our Culinary Arts program. The Paraprofessional will work under the direction of the Culinary Instructor to provide hands-on support in the classroom and kitchen, assist students with culinary techniques, ensure proper food safety, manage ordering for the program, oversee once-monthly evening catering events, and provide support for students requiring accommodations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the instructor in delivering hands-on culinary instruction, ensuring students follow proper food handling and safety procedures.
- Support student learning by reinforcing lessons, demonstrating culinary skills, and guiding students in practical kitchen activities.
- Monitor student engagement, behavior, and participation, providing support as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary learning environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Manage ordering of food, ingredients, and supplies to support classroom instruction and catering events.
- Coordinate and oversee evening catering events (one small event per month).
- Assist with inventory management and cost control for both instructional and catering needs.
- Provide support to students requiring accommodations by assisting with modified instruction, ensuring accessibility in the culinary lab, and following documented support plans (e.g., IEPs or 504 Plans).
- Maintain necessary documentation related to student accommodations, collaborating with instructors and support staff to ensure compliance with school and state policies.
- Supervise students during lab work, events, and potential off-site learning experiences.
- Collaborate with the instructor to develop engaging learning activities and reinforce industry best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned to enhance student success in the culinary program.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: A minimum of 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution. A candidate may obtain Annual Career Authorization by having 4000 hours of recent and relevant work experience within the past 6 years which can be documented and verified.
- Experience: Prior experience in culinary arts, catering, food service. Working with high school students is preferred.
- Certifications: ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire) is required.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of basic culinary techniques, food safety, and kitchen operations.
- Ability to support and engage students in a hands-on learning environment.
- Experience in ordering food and supplies for culinary operations.
- Ability to coordinate catering events, manage logistics, and ensure event success.
- Understanding of student accommodations, ability to assist in implementing modifications, and familiarity with documentation procedures for IEPs and 504 Plans.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow lesson plans and instructional guidance from the lead instructor.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Compensation:
Pay Grade 13: $23.64 - $27.81
