Maintains client medical records in hardcopy and digital formats, and provides general clerical support for clinic staff. Position may include combined assignments in the Holland, Hudsonville, and/or Grand Haven offices.
This is a full-time benefited position working out of the Public Health building in Holland, Michigan. Travel to other County locations as needed. Typical working hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm.
Essential Job Functions
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
High school diploma or GED and post-secondary training in medical terminology, combined with at least one year of experience in clinical support services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Job Functions
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Receives and responds to requests for information concerning availability of clinical services, insurance eligibility criteria, clinic hours and locations, fees and other matters. Provides general information and client referrals to community health partners and related community and social service agencies.
- Explains and verifies programmatic insurance eligibility requirements, reviews client eligibility documents and/or instructs clients to obtain required documents, and applies established eligibility criteria to determine the services for which individual clients are recommended. Explains billing practices and fee collection procedures, collects fees and provides receipts for clinic and environmental health services.
- Assists clients in completing consent to treat, registration, consent to release information, and medical history forms.
- Schedules client appointments, makes reminder phone-calls, contacts no-shows to reschedule appointments and responds to voicemail.
- Prepares client medical files for scheduled appointments, verifies continuing eligibility for services, and updates payor information for coordination of benefits. Updates client electronic medical records, including immunization cards.
- Maintains stocks of printed educational and service brochures for clinic. Monitors and restocks office supplies.
- Assists supervisory staff in the training of Clinic Support staff and provides input on programmatic policies and procedures.
- As needed, dispenses and maintains stock of Sharps containers, radon kits, and sample water bottles.
- Collects real estate evaluations, well and sewer permits, and vacant land permits.
- Helps support an equitable, safe, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
- Performs other functions as assigned.

Additional Requirements And Information
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Working knowledge of the provisions of Title X and Medicaid eligibility criteria; the Michigan Communicable Disease Rules and Immunization schedule, as determined by the Centers for Disease Control; statutory and regulatory requirements governing the confidentiality of patient health information, including the provisions of HIPAA; and medical ethical practice standards.
- Computer literacy, including good user knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet and database management applications software and accurate mathematical skills.
- Knowledge of health care and other community resources available to client populations.
- Good interpersonal and communications skills.
- Ability to interact positively with clients and their families, co-workers, community health partners, the general public from widely diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds with varying levels of interpersonal and communications skills.
- Good working knowledge of case documentation standards and requirements.
- Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize the workload.
