Job Type: Full-time M-F
Summary of duties: Responsible for ensuring timely billing, timely follow up on accts, timely turn over to collections, ethical billing practices and efficient operation of the department, etc.
Essential functions:
- Knowledge of billing, collection, Rural Health etc.
- Provides accurate coding including CPT and ICD-10/11, and charges for services rendered.
- Maintains proficiency in procedural coding which includes medical terminology and anatomy knowledge and keeps current on CPT coding changes.
- Maintains proficiency in diagnosis coding and remains current on ICD-10/11 coding changes.
- Monitors reports necessary to control accounts receivable.
- Oversees current bankruptcy records.
- Oversees returned checks.
- Identifies delinquent accounts, aging period and payment sources.
- Reviews accounts for possible assignment to collection agency and prepares information for collection agency.
- Follows and reports status of delinquent accounts.
- Records information about financial status of patient and status of collection efforts.
- Performs collection actions including contacting patients by telephone, mail, etc.
- Monitors reports from electronic data for accuracy and appropriate price control.
- Coordinates completion of the month end process and forwards assigned reports to the practice manager in a timely manner.
- Reviews and edits insurance claim forms and related documents for completeness.

- Knowledge and education requirements
- High school or vocational school graduate.
- Previous experience in all business office functions including but not limited to filing insurance claims, CPT and ICD-10 coding, medical terminology, basic accounting principles, in office collections, patient counseling, and account auditing.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Able to communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, and the general public.
- Sensitivity to confidential matters.
- Physical requirements
- Normal physical mobility, agility, and endurance.
- Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials and tools including the ability to handle a 20 pound object.
- Normal dexterity of hands and fingers.
- Normal eye-hand, hand-foot coordination.
