JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for high quality face-to-face and / or online instruction for adult learning in an Adjunct faculty role at assigned clinical sites or campus skills or simulation lab. Primary responsibility is to teach, monitor, and evaluate students in clinical settings at various clinical sites (medical facilities and community agencies). The faculty member is committed to academic excellence in all areas of teaching and learning including theory, laboratory, and clinical instruction. Must demonstrate success through instruction, collaboration with various stakeholders, and active engagement within the discipline. Responsible for contributing to Ottawa’s educational programming and academic integrity.
STANDARD UNIVERSITY EXPECTATIONS :
- Demonstrate understanding of the nature of course, course objectives both didactic and clinical, and effectively apply evidence-based instructional techniques to achieve course and program outcomes.
- Effectively role model oral and written communication to engage students in active learning and communicate clearly with all stakeholders.
- Effectively assist students in identifying clinical day learning goals and any concerns or problems related to the learning experience.
- Orient students to the clinical site and coordinate with clinical staff at the clinical site for appropriate student assignment each clinical day.
- Effectively instruct, monitor, and supervise the assigned clinical group of students for the clinical rotation at the clinical site (up to 10 students per group) to assure optimal learning and patient, student, stakeholder safety.
- Remain available to answer student questions throughout the clinical day.
- Conduct pre- and post-conference sessions to provide instruction and promote reflective learning from the clinical day.
- Participate in skills lab, simulation lab, or classroom as assigned for the contracted course contract.
- Maintain clinical standards of care, and effectively role model professionalism as a nurse, and assist students in identifying and remediating behaviors, attitudes, and communication not congruent with professionalism.
- Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders at clinical sites and within Ottawa University.
- Evaluate student clinical performance according to Ottawa University and established nursing academic standards.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION : (education based on essential job duties and requirements consistent with business necessity) :
Earned Doctorate or a master's degree in related field, with 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline being taught.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE : (experience based on requirements in role and are consistent with business necessity) :
Five years of academic and professional teaching experience within the teaching content.
