Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Coach to join our coaching team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sports and physical education, with the ability to motivate and inspire students. This role involves supporting the head coach in training sessions, developing athletes' skills, and fostering a positive team environment. The Assistant Coach will work closely with students of various skill levels, helping them improve their performance in their chosen sport.
Duties
- Assist the head coach in planning and conducting training sessions for various sports, including Basketball, Judo, Karate, and Martial Arts.
- Provide instruction on techniques and strategies to enhance athletes' performance.
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to help them improve their skills.
- Implement behavior management strategies to promote a positive learning environment.
- Organize and supervise practice sessions, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Collaborate with other coaching staff to develop training programs that cater to individual student needs.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for team development and improvement.
- Foster teamwork and sportsmanship among athletes while encouraging participation in physical education activities.
Experience
- Previous experience in sports coaching or physical education is preferred.
- Experience working with students in a coaching or educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with students of all ages.
- A background in behavior management techniques is beneficial for maintaining discipline during training sessions.
- Ability to climb and swim may be required depending on specific sport activities involved.
Ottawa USD 290 is accepting applications for a Middle School Cheer Assistant Coach for the 2025-2026 school year. Applicants must be appropriately endorsed or be eligible to obtain the appropriate endorsement to coach.
This is a part-time position working approximately four months. There are no benefits with this position.
