Teacher: Resource Room Teacher at Ottawa Middle School

Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Middle School Resource Room Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to fostering a positive learning environment and helping students achieve their academic goals. This role involves working with diverse student populations, including those with special needs, and requires creativity, patience, and effective communication skills.

Duties

• Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that cater to the diverse learning styles of students.
• Educate students in various subjects while incorporating techniques for special education and working with individuals with disabilities.
• Utilize applied behavior analysis strategies to support students with autism and other behavioral challenges.
• Foster a supportive classroom environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration among students.
• Mentor students to help them develop their skills in creative writing and other academic areas.
• Collaborate with colleagues to enhance library services and integrate resources into the curriculum.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding their child's development.
• Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with educational best practices and administrative requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; teaching certification preferred.
• Experience or coursework in special education, deaf education, or working with individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of applied behavior analysis techniques for supporting students with autism.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage students effectively.
• Ability to create an inclusive classroom environment that respects diversity and promotes equity among all students.
• Experience in education administration or mentoring is a plus.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth within the field of education.

This is an 183 day contract payable over 12 months. Salary will be based on education and experience. Applicant must be appropriately endorsed or be eligible to obtain the appropriate endorsement for this position. In addition to the annual salary, successful applicant will receive a $500 annual stipend paid over 12 months.
