Description
Otter Tail County is accepting applications for a Household Hazardous Waste Attendant / Recycling Floater to work in the Solid Waste Department. This position primarily works as a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Attendant but also fills in as a Recycling Operator and Recycling Route Specialist as needed. As an HHW Attendant, this position works in the HHW facility under direction of the HHW Regional Program Manager and attends HHW mobile collection events. As a Recycling Operator and Recycling Route Specialist, this position will operate recycling equipment at the Recycling Center and drive a straight hook truck with a pup trailer / packer truck picking up recycling within Otter Tail County.
Examples of Duties
HHW Attendant Tasks :
- Sort, process, and store HHW materials in accordance with state guidelines.
- Assist in operation of paint and reuse center.
- Maintain safe working environment and cleanliness of building and grounds.
- Provide information in person, by telephone, or through email. Respond to questions on proper management of HHW.
- Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment (forklift, skid steer, crusher, compactor, some hydraulic mechanisms).
- Complete inspection logs in vehicles, eye wash stations, HHW drums, fire extinguishers, etc. Schedule services, as needed.
- Have working knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of handling HHW.
- Organize and prioritize work efficiently.
- Be able to compare, count, differentiate, measure, and sort data.
- Attend training and education sessions and maintain CDL and HHW Certifications as required.
- Provide training and direction to fill-in workers such as the STS Crew, CEP, and temporary workers.

This position is regularly scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 : 30 a.m. to 4 : 00 p.m. The current starting salary for this position is $21.35 per hour, with career advancement to $32.02.
The selection process will include an online employment application and supplemental questionnaire. Semi-finalists will be invited to interview and the finalist will have a practical driving test. Prior to hire, applicants are required to pass a background investigation, pre-employment medical examination, and drug screening. A standard 12 month probationary period applies.
