Job Summary

Build relationships of trust with constituents to secure charitable financial gifts and design and administer an effective local fundraising effort to include annual, capital, tribute and planned gifts. This position serves as a part of the overall Philanthropy Team and as such, will participate in the strategizing of the philanthropy plan and budget, as well as assist with Otterbein organization wide publications and events to articulate the mission and inspire support and loyalty.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, identify, and cultivate prospects who have the capacity and interest to support our mission with their charitable gifts.
  • After identification and cultivation, solicit prospects for specific and unrestricted gift opportunities.
  • Update and maintain donor records assuring accurate entry, acknowledgement and recognition, and actions to help in the continuity of donor relations.
  • Process all charitable gift transactions daily by securing gifts, producing acknowledgement letters as needed, and preparing copies with gifts to be deposited with the location Business Manager.
  • Using electronic charitable gift database software (such as Blackbaud’s RE NXT/Raiser’s Edge), record any actions related to the gift cultivation or solicitation process, acceptance, and acknowledgment for your region.
  • Maintain and monitor the monthly Restricted Operating Funds report.
  • Assist in writing and updating content for major donor assets — including but not limited to emails, letters, thank you notes, and more.
  • Work with location leadership to utilize designated/restricted funds as noted and available.
  • Attend and participate in various resident group activities, luncheons, dinners, and special events, meeting and serving our customers.
  • Create and manage special events for donor solicitation and/or recognition.
  • Engage with local chambers/ community organizations to help tell the Otterbein story.
  • Attend and assist with organizational events, i.e. the Dilgard Golf Open and annual Senior Olympics.
  • Prepare quarterly board reports as requested in a timely manner.
  • Attend various monthly and quarterly meetings such as Philanthropy Team and site specific meetings.
  • Assist in the Identification and recruitment of talented volunteers to serve on the Philanthropy Committee and/or the local board as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills Required:

  • Ensure the highest confidentiality and privacy standards are maintained
  • Strong collaboration skills to build relationships across multiple levels of leadership and locations in order to build trust with the Philanthropy team, internal customers (coworkers) and external customers (residents, families, donors, board members and volunteers), as well as with those in the communities we serve
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Excellent communication skills (writing, editing, listening and speaking)
  • Excellent computer, customer service and organization skills
  • Must possess the ability to assimilate information from a variety of sources, analyze hard data, discover patterns and trends and offer recommendations
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to independently assess priorities
  • Proficient with fundraising software, preferred experience with Raiser’s Edge
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Basic graphic editing skills a plus
  • Learning and becoming proficient in Otterbein approved operational apps (Red e app; Center Card, Okta verify, etc)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or Associate’s Degree or High School Diploma/GED with 5-10 years fundraising experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ fundraising experience required
  • Experience in gift designation, entry and acknowledgement a significant plus
