About the Role
As an Associate Manufacturing Engineer on the Fuselage Integration team, you will play a key role in the scale up of Otto Aviation’s high volume aircraft production line. You will help the Otto team develop and implement the processes, tools, and ideas required to scale up from several aircraft per year to hundreds of aircraft per year. Tasks will include creating build & flow documents, identifying required production tools, creating manufacturing BOMs, authoring work instructions, determining build schedules, and executing build of flight hardware on the production flow. You will work in a cross functional team role with tooling engineering, facilities engineering, and project management functions.
What You'll Do
- Make key contributions to the development of Otto’s high-output production system that will produce aircraft at high rates of up to 225 vehicles per year.
- Work closely with the design, systems, and stress teams to ensure that manufacturability is guiding all facets of the airframe design.
- Author clear, explicit, and easy-to-follow manufacturing work instructions.
- Support the development and build of the FAIT (Final Assembly and Integration Technology) facility layout for future aircraft production.
- Work closely with the production team on the shop floor to quickly address issues and resolve technical challenges.
- Collaborate with design, systems, tooling, and manufacturing teams to support the assembly and integration planning of Flight Test Vehicle builds and future high-rate production.
- Follow the build onto the floor and be part of the technical point of contact during build execution.
- Performing potential trade studies with vehicle level and subsystem design teams to better enable fabrication and integration of parts into the aircraft
Who You Are
- B.S. in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or similar field
- 0-2 years of relevant work experience preferably working on aircraft or spacecraft structural assembly, fluids integration, avionics integration, or similar experience.
- Experience with a variety of hardware manufacturing practices including drilling, shimming, fastening, fluids integration, avionics integration, instrumentation, precision cleaning, non-destructive testing, leak testing, and machining
- Proven ability building trusting and effective working relationships that improve team performance and deliver results
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
Bonus Points
- Strong experience with composites manufacturing (lamination, bonding, drilling and fastening).
- Experience with automated/robotic manufacturing systems.
- Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing, processing, and materials.
- Hands on experience in aircraft or spacecraft build and/or assembly.
- Experience with aircraft or spacecraft development, production, and/or operations.
- Proficiency in 3DX, Delmia, Catia, or similar CAD software
