Position Title: Surgical Support Specialist - Adult Surgery Department: Adult Surgery Job Description: New to OU Health? General Description: Under immediate supervision, responsible for a variety of duties in support of the Surgical Suites. Essential Responsibilities: Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position. Transports patients, specimens, supplies, blood and equipment as directed. Ensure all procedures are followed for the safe transport of blood and other specimens Responsible for transporting patients and family to holding area or waiting rooms Observes and communicates to OR desk or Charge Nurse any changes such as patient not being ready Immediately reports any changes in patient’s condition during transport May be required to take emergency action as needed Helps to move and position patients in the Surgical Suite as needed Completes required documentation (Approximately 50% of duties.) Performs cleaning of operating rooms during turnover Follows established procedures and guidelines for cleaning operating rooms Performs daily and/or weekly cleaning within the Surgical Suites Maintains the cleanliness of the department which includes cleaning hallways, bathrooms, lounges and supply areas Complies with all relevant procedures and regulations related to hospital sanitation, cleanliness and safety Uses all cleaning products and equipment appropriately and safely Ensures that all procedures and regulations for proper disposal of waste items and material are followed Responsible for restocking supplies, linens and solutions Performs other support services as requested (Approximately 50% of duties.) General Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: Education: None. Experience: Healthcare experience preferred. License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to perform tasks in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations. Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques. Good communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with hospital staff and patients. Ability to function effectively as a member of a team.
