Job Description

The Infant/Toddler/Preschool/Pre-K Curriculum Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate, research-based curriculum and educational programs for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and pre-kindergarten children. This role ensures that the curriculum aligns with early childhood development standards, fosters a nurturing learning environment, and meets the specific developmental needs of children from birth to age 5. The director works closely with educators, parents, and administrative staff to enhance teaching practices and support the overall goals of the early childhood education program.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Development and Implementation:

  • Design and develop comprehensive, age-appropriate curricula for infant, toddler, preschool, and pre-kindergarten children.
  • Incorporate principles of early childhood development, including cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth, into the curriculum.
  • Ensure that the curriculum adheres to state and national early learning standards (e.g., NAEYC, Head Start, MA learning guidelines etc.).
  • Integrate play-based learning, hands-on activities, and multi-sensory experiences into the curriculum.
  • Regularly update and revise the curriculum to reflect best practices, current research, and educational trends.

Teacher Support and Professional Development:

  • Provide ongoing support, training, and professional development for early childhood educators on curriculum delivery, instructional strategies, and classroom management.
  • Observe classroom practices and provide constructive feedback to teachers to enhance the learning environment and teaching effectiveness.
  • Assist teachers in differentiating instruction to meet the diverse needs of all children, including those with special needs or English Language Learners (ELL).
  • Train teachers on effective curriculum delivery, child assessment, classroom management, and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Provide individualized coaching to educators to enhance teaching effectiveness, including how to foster inclusive, nurturing learning environments.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Collaborate with educators to develop and implement age-appropriate assessment tools to monitor children's progress.
  • Review student data (e.g., developmental milestones, assessment results) to make informed decisions about curriculum adjustments and individual support.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of the curriculum's effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement.

Parent and Family Engagement:

  • Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers about their child’s progress, curriculum goals, and ways to support learning at home.
  • Provide resources and strategies to families for fostering children’s development outside the classroom.
  • Facilitate workshops or informational sessions for parents on child development and early childhood education topics.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Collaborate with other specialists, such as speech therapists, special education professionals, and behavioral specialists, to ensure the curriculum is inclusive and meets the needs of all children.
  • Work closely with the administration to align curriculum objectives with the overall goals of the educational institution or program.
  • Assist in program planning, including the integration of thematic units, holiday celebrations, and community partnerships.

Program Leadership and Advocacy:

  • Serve as an advocate for high-quality early childhood education and be a resource for best practices in curriculum development.
  • Contribute to program development by sharing innovative ideas for improving curriculum and educational experiences.
  • Stay current with trends and research in early childhood education, attending conferences, workshops, and seminars.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure that all curriculum activities comply with regulatory standards, licensing requirements, and accreditation guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of curriculum development, professional development sessions, and student progress reports.

Traveling Logistics & Planning

  • Travel to multiple sites to provide direct guidance on curriculum implementation
  • Observe classrooms to assess how the curriculum is being implemented, ensuring that the educational objectives & standards are being met.
  • Provide on-site feedback to educators regarding instructional strategies, classroom setup, learning materials, and child engagement.
  • Offer suggestions & training for adjusting the curriculum to better meet the needs of specific groups of children or address local challenges.
  • Help to ensure that all locations meet regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and quality benchmarks.
  • Work closely with program directors, site coordinators, and administrators to ensure the curriculum is aligned with overall program goals and objectives
  • Coordinate travel schedules and logistics for site visits, ensuring efficiency in time management and resources.
  • Maintain a travel log and documentation of each visit, including observations, feedback provided, and any follow-up actions needed.
  • Manage time effectively to balance travel with other responsibilities, ensuring adequate coverage for all program locations.
  • Working in conjunction with Area directors to address any additional actions needed to ensure the successful implementation of the curriculum.

Objectives:

  • Ensure Developmentally Appropriate Practices:

Develop a curriculum that is tailored to the specific developmental stages of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and pre-kindergarten children, ensuring it fosters the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development of young children.

  • Enhance Teacher Effectiveness:

Improve teacher proficiency and confidence in delivering high-quality, engaging curriculum through ongoing professional development, support, and resources.

  • Support Child Growth and Learning:

Design activities and materials that promote learning through play, inquiry, exploration, and problem-solving to support children’s growth across all domains of development.

  • Promote Parent Involvement:

Establish strong communication with parents to ensure they are informed and involved in their child’s educational journey, helping them to support learning at home.

  • Foster a Positive Learning Environment:

Create a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment where children feel safe, valued, and motivated to learn.

  • Ensure Curriculum Alignment and Compliance:

Ensure the curriculum is aligned with local, state, and national educational standards, and meets the needs of diverse learners, including children with special needs.

  • Monitor and Improve Program Effectiveness:

Regularly assess the impact of the curriculum on children's learning and development, making data-driven adjustments to improve program outcomes.

  • Ensure Consistent Curriculum Delivery

Ensure that the curriculum is being implemented consistently across all program locations.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in early childhood education, Child Development, or a related field. Certification in early childhood education may be required.

  • Experience:

At least 3-5 years of experience working in early childhood education, with a strong background in curriculum development and teaching.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of early childhood development and effective teaching practices.
  • Ability to design and implement developmentally appropriate, engaging curriculum.
  • Experience in professional development and mentoring teachers.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with educators, parents, and administrators.
  • Certifications
  • Early Childhood Education certification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or similar certification is a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • The position may require occasional evenings for parent workshops, meetings, or training sessions.
  • Travel to multiple sites to provide direct guidance on curriculum implementation
  • Occasional travel may be required for professional development or program coordination.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
