What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parish Coordinator of Catechesis position at OUR LADY OF ASSUMPTION CHURCH?
The Parish Coordinator of Catechesis is under the direct supervision of the Pastor and in accordance with established policies and procedures, is responsible for religious education, utilizing in-depth knowledge of diocesan operations, procedures, and personnel. This is a 15-hour per week position with hours adjusted with the Pastor’s approval according to Catechism activities and office schedule. Some evening and weekend work is required.
Requirements:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
Certification in theology or other related educational experience preferred or experience in religious education or working with youth or three to five years’ experience in Catholic catechist/teaching and administrative work.
EXPERIENCE
Must have three to five years’ experience of Catholic catechist/teaching and one year of administrative experience. Must have good leadership skills, an active faith life, ability to work collaboratively with others, experience in areas of responsibility in ministry and have previous experience in developing and administering programs to meet assessed needs.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be proficient verbally and in writing in both, Spanish and English. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations relating to the position. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
GENERAL DUTIES
- In coordination with Pastor, responsible for developing and creating the catechetical needs for the parish.
- Responsible for preparing, and maintaining an annual budget in accordance with diocesan/parish policies
- Responsible for overseeing recordkeeping of catechetical programs for (specific group) and certifications
- Meets regularly with parish council and Pastor to plan and coordinate parish programs
- Must have an understanding of and ability to use collaborative management skills
- Ongoing continuing education in the area of catechesis through diocesan and other workshops
- Recruits and provides formation for catechists including recommendations of certification
- From lists of approved text offered by Office of Evangelization and Catechesis responsible for selecting materials for the program
- Manages the Protecting God’s child program and all documentation to comply with Diocesan policy.
Assumes and/or performs additional related duties as requested and assigned by the pastor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has the responsibility of overseeing volunteers as needed in the programs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, typical of an office with computers and printers.
