Our Lady of Good Counsel High School is searching for two Deans of Students who will begin in July 2025. One Dean will be focused on supporting ninth grade students and the other will have multiple grade level responsibilities. The Deans of Students report to the Assistant Principal for Student Life.
Responsibilities Of The Dean Of Students
- Promoting Positive Student Conduct and Engagement
- Works with administration and faculty in ensuring the discipline codes, regulations, and administration of discipline are handled equitably and consistent with the school mission and philosophy
- Implements and facilitates restorative practices in the promotion of positive student behavior, self-reflection, and peer conflict resolution
- Develops and maintains the due process procedures in administration of discipline, suspension, and recommendation for expulsion
- Is responsible for educating students, parents, faculty/staff regarding the school's expectations of conduct within the school community
- Collaborate with the Counseling Department to support the needs of students who demonstrate repeated behavioral challenges
- Serves as a member of the Student Support Team
- Is authorized to suspend a student from classes and ensures that policies and procedures are followed, makes decisions regarding probation (meets with the student and conveys what is expected, sends a letter to parents/guardians)
- Keeps accurate student files — record of attendance, absenteeism, detention, suspension, behavioral problems, etc.
- Monitors students’ files for unusual patterns
- Develops, creates, and monitors student behavioral plans and agreements
- Helps design and monitor group programs for students with repeated behavioral problems in conjunction with Counseling
- Monitors student failures related to absenteeism
- Approves excused student absences for outside school programs of an educational nature
- Teach two courses
- Planning and Organization
- Is responsible for ongoing evaluation and revision of all discipline forms
- Works with the administration on the revising and editing of the Student Handbook
- Sets quarterly schedule for review of students' attendance, tardiness, and disciplinary records; puts students on probation
- Works with the Athletic Director and the moderators of student activities to arrange security of special events.
- Operations
- Ensures student compliance with the school's dress code
- Oversees the operation of detention.
- Supervises lunch periods and dismissal
- Supports the Assistant Principal for Student Life in supervising the attendance officer to maintain daily attendance records
- Responds to requests for excused absences
- Is responsible for locks and lockers and their assignment
- Is responsible for student on-campus parking and the assignment of spaces
- Is responsible for fire drills
- Supervises security of the building
- Communication
- Provides material to teachers in the areas of classroom management, discipline, emergency procedures, etc.
- Keeps administration informed of any student who is hospitalized or has an extended illness
- Fosters proactive communication with parents and caregivers, informing them of behavioral concerns and collaborating to develop strategies for student success
- Assists others with duties, as needed, and from time to time performs other responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Principal for Student Life, the Principal, or the President

- Be able to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and professionally navigate complex situations.
- Have earned a Bachelor’s Degree.
- At least three years of experience in a school setting, ideally a Catholic or independent school setting.
- Have demonstrated experience and/or commitment to serving a school community that is culturally, religiously, and socioeconomically diverse.
- Be self-motivated, possess superior organizational and communication skills, and a sense of humor.
- Be comfortable engaging with a diverse group of stakeholders on complex issues.
