GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Under the supervision of the principal, the Development Director develops and implements the strategies necessary to gather resources; carries out the development activities required to achieve the goals of the school; ensures that the goals are adequately articulated and that a long-range plan is in place; oversees the coordination of the fundraising programs; works cooperatively with the principal to develop positive public relations within and outside the school community; oversees the coordination of the work of volunteers assisting with development projects; coordinates communication with the Development Council, Alumni Association, and benefactors of the school; conducts the annual giving campaign; coordinates preparation for any capital campaign with the Principal, Development Council and parents;
performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal.

 

DUTIES OF THE JOB: 


A. Strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education; shows evidence of knowledge of the Catholic philosophy of education; promotes gospel values and Catholic moral teaching; upholds the doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church; provides opportunities for the students to be
prepared for life in today’s Church and society.
B. Carries out established development policies; organizes a public relations program: writes press releases and serves as contact with the media; coordinates public relations functions; publishes a newsletter for alumni and friends; works with the webmaster to keep public relations information and alumni information update on the web page; works with the faculty to help them appreciate their role in school development; plans and arranges for donor recognition.
C. Conducts the annual giving campaign, which includes preparing solicitation materials, organizing phone solicitation, researching prospective major donors, soliciting major donors, preparing a Planned Gift Program involving bequests, annuities, outright gifts, etc. in consultation with the Development Council; prepares the annual report.
D. Coordinates preparations for any capital campaign with the principal and parents.
E. Researches potential grant opportunities and oversees written grant proposals from faculty,
staff, and parent groups.
F. Oversees record keeping, acknowledgements, solicitation reports, and all correspondence as it relates to development and recruitment; provides for accurate computerized financial records of development activities; coordinates fundraising programs with the individuals responsible for various projects.
G. Works with the principal to develop positive public relations within and outside the school
community; provides support for local parent-teacher groups and the School Advisory Board;
develops cooperative relationships with the parishes; develops a cooperative and friendly
relationship with the local Catholic and public high schools; maintains an interest in the local civic community and fosters school participation when possible and appropriate; acquaints
himself/herself with local enrichment opportunities, referral agencies, fire and police
department and social services available to the school.
H. Assists in the coordination of the work of volunteers with development projects; oversees the progress of the Alumni.
I. Performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
A. Must be a practicing Catholic (BFOQ).
B. Must have initiative, creativity, and problem solving skills; judgment in handling different
personalities and emerging situations; an ability to observe and actively listen in assessing
financial planning and program needs; proficiency in good communication skills with both
children and adults; a positive attitude in crisis situations; the ability to work cooperatively with others as well as the ability to delegate.
C. Must have knowledge and understanding of grant writing, planned giving, etc.

D. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

E. Ability to work occasional nights and weekends.

F. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as business administration, communications, nonprofit management, or a related discipline.

G. Bilingual Spanish preferred
