What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Tech - Med Surg 1 position at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center?
The Nurse Tech is a student RN working under the direct supervision of an RN in assisting the nursing staff with patient care. Relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks. Works under close supervision.1. Non-Invasive Patient Care
- Assists in patient admission, discharge, and transfer. Measures, collects, and records patient data (e.g., weight, vital signs) and reports symptoms, reactions, and changes in patients' condition to the Registered Nurse.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living.
- Retrieves medications from the pneumatic tube system and / or pharmacy and delivers the medications to the nurse and / or place medications in a secure location as determined by the nurse manager2. Collaboration & Partnership
- Assists physicians with examination, treatments, and special tests. Collects patient specimens and transports specimens to the lab.
- Performs procedures consistent with standards set forth by their school of nursing and level of nursing education completed under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Utilizes equipment safely for patient care as directed by a Registered Nurse.3. Quality
- Adheres to standards of nursing and the policies and procedures set forth by the institution in an effort to enhance the quality and efficiency of hospital nursing services.
- Utilizes all equipment, supplies, and resources in a prudent and efficient manner.
- Observes and adheres to quality standards established by the department. Participates in continuous quality improvement programs.4. Other Duties As Assigned
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
- Must be a Junior or Senior in an accredited RN Nursing Program
- Communication, Customer Service, computer Skills. Knowledge of medical terminology.
