What are the responsibilities and job description for the Expanded Duty Dental Assistant position at Our Lady of the Lake?
The Expanded Duty Dental Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a Dentist. Interviews patients and records information on patient charts. Coordinates patient flow and assists in procedures. May assist with phone calls and scheduling. Works under close supervision of the clinic manager.
- Assist dentists and hygienists during a variety of treatment procedures.
- Chart existing restorations and missing teeth, floss teeth and make preliminary inspections of the mouth and teeth with a mouth mirror and floss
- Take and record patient medical and dental histories and vital signs as well as take and develop dental radiographs and intraoral photographs
- Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment.
- Instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care as well as give intraoral instructions and demonstrations on oral hygiene procedures
- Manage dental supply inventory and maintain dental equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and practices.
- Provide administrative support such as scheduling appointments
- Experience: 3 years of directly-related Expanded Duty Dental Assistant experience
- Education: Completion of an expanded duty dental assisting program approved by the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry (LSBD), OR Graduate from a CODA-accredited dental assisting program, providing documentation that training was provided in all functions which EDDAs are allowed to perform; AND Completion of a Louisiana State Board of Dentistry-approved radiography course
- Licensure/Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Expanded Duty Dental Assistant (EDDA)
