What are the responsibilities and job description for the Imaging Assistant position at Our Lady of the Lake?
The Radiology Technologist Assistant assists the Imaging professional in patient preparation for procedures, equipment maintenance and transportation of patients. Relies on establish guidelines to accomplish tasks. Works under directed supervision from the technologist.
- TECHNICAL TASKS
- Always communicates with technologists concerning laser film quality, processors, etc
- Maintains communication with clerical staff concerning in-patient requests, film check out, etc.
- Prepares films for interpretation by Radiologists, including hanging, labeling, sorting, pulling previous etc. and pulls down films as soon as able.
- When assisting technologists, always demonstrates an awareness of radiation safety procedures for self and others; wears protective clothing to minimize radiation to the patient and self
- Keeps area stocked at all times. Requests supplies, as appropriate.
- Assists radiologic technologists and clerical staff as needed, with film processing, patient monitoring, filing, etc.
- As required, assumes responsibility for portions of the departments quality assurance program as directed by the Assistant Director.
- CRITICAL THINKING
- Reports to supervisor any suggestions or positive changes and recommendations within the departmental policies and procedures which will improve the quality of patient care in the Radiology department.
- Consistently demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities and deal with them promptly while working in an accurate and timely manner.
- Anticipates needs of radiologist concerning film interpretation to keep process as efficient as possible.
- Always attempts to understand the patients needs and responds and assists accordingly. Reassures the patient and consistently tries to obtain cooperation while reducing anxiety.
- INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS
- Greets patients, physicians and all other visitors to the department in a courteous and respectful manner; responds to all with empathy and positive interpersonal skills.
- Establishes and maintains a good rapport and cooperative relationship with all members of the Radiology department and all ancillary service personnel.
- Consistently exhibits concern for the dignity and welfare of patients and ensures confidence of privileged information: acknowledges limitations of practice, maintains forthright and honest behavior at all times.
- Recognizes the role of technical assistant in relation to the overall function of the institution in view of total patient care; and the importance of teamwork within the Radiology department.
