Job Overview
The Classroom Floater will be responsible for a group of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, or school aged children. Under the direction of the facility directors and lead teachers of the classroom, floaters will assist implementation of activities designed by the Lead Teachers to promote the social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for the children in their care. Under the supervision of the Lead Teachers, ensure the development and safety of the children in their care in accordance with federal, state, and Our Little Village Learning Center policies. The Classroom Assistant must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children in their care. This role must be comfortable in a Christian environment, leading children in prayer, implementing biblical principles and presenting a Christ-centered curriculum.
Responsibilities
Classroom Management
- Assist the Lead Teacher in ensuring the classroom is safe and developmentally appropriate for children aged 4 weeks through 4th grade.
- Interact with children—including at floor level—to help develop motor, language, social/emotional, and cognitive growth.
- Ensure the classroom is kept clean and orderly, and confirm that the daily cleaning list is completed.
- Supervise children at all times, maintaining direct visual observation in the classroom and on the playground.
- Respond compassionately to the needs of the children.
- Greet children and parents at pick-up and drop-off times.
- Complete all documentation required by the state and Our Little Village.
- Accurately complete all required paperwork such as food sheets, attendance records, and other reports.
- Assist with mealtime activities and related record keeping.
- Assist with diapering and toilet training processes.
- Practice and model good cleaning and hygiene habits (e.g., proper handwashing, cleaning and sanitizing toys, wiping tables, etc.).
- Use positive discipline techniques as outlined in the staff handbook.
- Communicate positively with the children.
- Document activities and communicate with parents appropriately using the ProCare app.
- Complete 10 hours of professional growth training annually, including 6 hours of orientation training, and obtain CPR and First Aid certification within the first 90 days of employment.
- Stay informed about the staff handbook and follow the procedures and protocols it outlines.
- Perform other essential functions as assigned by the directors, Team Lead Teachers, and Lead Teachers (such as cleaning and organizing storerooms, kitchen clean-up, or other tasks).
Required Qualifications
- Strong oral and written communication skills, along with basic computer skills.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities.
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification (to be maintained every 2 years).
- Must pass a full background check.

Physical Requirements
- Capable of taking frequent walks, using hands and fingers, and possibly kneeling, bending, squatting, or crawling.
- Able to interact with children in various activities, including lifting up to 45 pounds, bending down, being on the floor at the children’s level, and getting back up without aids.
- Willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
