For 33 years, individuals, businesses and institutions have invested in Our Neighbors’ Table (ONT) as the leader in driving universal food access across the region. Our Neighbors’ Table’s unique, flexible and dignified approach to food assistance has enabled us to declare Amesbury a food secure city and is the only organization poised to implement a near-term strategy to make Northeastern Essex County a food secure region. Our work has inspired and informed regional, state- and nationwide changes to put the dignity of those experiencing food insecurity at the forefront of programming.

Director of Development

In 2024, upon the launch of the Lower Merrimack Valley Food Coalition and the opening of the Seacoast Regional Food Hub, Our Neighbors’ Table is significantly scaling its work and leading a network of more than 25 organizations. ONT seeks an individual passionate about food security and energized harness our momentum to engage a broad audience of supporters to join our mission.

The Director of Development will lead ONT’s fundraising efforts to support its mission, with primary responsibility for achieving financial goals. This role focuses on securing and expanding relationships with individual, corporate, and public and private institutional donors through a variety of methods, including grassroots cultivation, direct solicitation, grant proposals and planned giving. The Director reports to and will work closely with the Executive Director and senior leadership to drive revenue growth and raise ONT’s visibility across the Lower Merrimack Valley and beyond.

About ONT’s revenue needs

ONT’s annual operating budget is $6.9M, of which $3M is secured from a diverse portfolio of philanthropic giving and government support. Current and future revenue requires a broadening of ONT’s existing, loyal donor base to correspond with its expanded geographic scope of services. Since its inception in 1992, local individuals and businesses have been the cornerstone of ONT’s financial support. In recent years, the community has invested in our fundraising infrastructure to strengthen our ability to secure grants and government contracts. With a strong team and reputation in place, the incoming Director of Development will bring the necessary leadership to monitor and forecast funding trends and position the organization to capitalize on those opportunities.

Responsibilities include:

Development Stewardship

  • Drawing best practices and proven methods from the broader field of philanthropy and fundraising and tracking and applying trends in public and private funding
  • Engaging and supporting ONT’s stakeholders, including Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, partners and guests, as ambassadors of ONT’s mission and helpers in ONT’s fundraising efforts
  • Working with the Director of Finance/HR to ensure revenue is properly coded and recorded and that organizational activity is in compliance with funder and governmental regulations
  • Partnering with the Director of Communications and Program Director to showcase ONT’s current and potential impact on food security across the region and beyond
  • Handling Major Gifts and cultivating current and future Major Gift donors
  • Stewarding ONT’s growing base of in-kind food supply partners

Team Leadership

  • Leading, mentoring and supporting the development team responsible for the internal operations of donor database management, gift processing, solicitation, grant writing, grassroots outreach, donor cultivation and stewardship, and communications
  • Engaging with volunteers as part of resource development process and directing their development work
  • Collaborating with ONT’s leadership team to create a community-driven, supportive organizational culture that attracts and retains talent and passion for ONT’s mission

Planning and Reporting

  • Developing and implementing long-term financial goals and developing annual revenue plans encompassing the full spectrum of revenue sources, including grants, individual and corporate gifts, government grants and contracts
  • Collaborating with the Executive Director and Resource Development Committee to develop and execute successful stewardship and fundraising strategies
  • Developing and maintaining responsibility for the execution of the annual revenue calendar and preparing progress reports and forecasts for the Board of Directors

Experience & Qualifications Required:

  • 10 years development experience, including minimum 3 years leading a development team, and demonstrated success in securing directly or through direct reports revenue from individuals, businesses, and foundations, including major gifts. Experience with government grants also a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging donors at all levels and from diverse backgrounds, including individuals, major donors, businesses, foundations,
  • Demonstrated success in growing revenue and donor base
  • Pro-active work style; strategic thinking, flexible collaboration, and strong communication and project management skills.
  • Strong leadership experience, leading, motivating and mentoring direct-reports, internal and external stakeholders
  • Meticulous and focused in nature, with superior attention to detail and a focus on creating compelling written and oral communications
  • Extensive experience with donor databases, record-keeping and donor segmentation
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bi- or multi-lingual skills a strong plus – particularly Spanish, Portuguese

Pay: $120,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
