The Ministry: OurCalling is a ministry specifically focused on the unsheltered homeless community. We operate an outreach center for the homeless community near downtown Dallas. We are passionate about loving and helping the unsheltered homeless transition to better lives. We are a faith-based ministry where every job is a ministry position. Each staff member should be able to clearly share the Gospel and communicate their own testimony. While everyone on the team wears multiple hats, our primary function is getting people off the street and helping them walk with Jesus. We want everything that we do to point to Jesus. We serve 200-400 guests daily. We are a “no-barrier” facility that is welcoming and compassionate to all who enter.
Job Summary:
The Communications Manager (CM) plays a key role in advancing OurCalling’s mission by leading the organization’s communications efforts within the Advancement Team. Working closely with department and organizational leadership, the CM will develop and implement a strategic communications plan that aligns with OurCalling’s brand and inspires generosity. This role oversees all external marketing and communications to attract, engage, and retain donors while also managing the planning and execution of OurCalling’s annual Light Up the Streets gala. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), the CM will supervise the Communications Specialist, who handles graphic design and social media. As part of the Advancement Team, the CM will help foster a culture of generosity and support the organization’s fundraising and communication initiatives.
Essential Functions:
- Effectively communicate OurCalling’s mission, brand, programs, and impact across all communication channels
- Partner with the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) to develop and execute strategy for the annual Light Up the Streets gala, including event planning, vendor coordination, and team collaboration to ensure success
- Plan, manage, and execute key marketing and fundraising campaigns throughout the year, including Cold Weather, Love Your Neighbor, Mission Moments, Beat the Heat, North Texas Giving Day, Thanksgiving, and Year-End Giving
- Oversee print communications in partnership with the Communications Associate
- Manage email communications, collaborating with the CAO and Writer to develop compelling content
- Lead and implement public relations strategies, including media outreach and relationship management, with the support of a PR firm
- Work with photographers, videographers, Communications Associate, and Writer to create engaging storytelling assets for campaigns, donor stewardship, and events
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in communications, marketing, fundraising, or event planning, preferably in a nonprofit setting
- Experience managing multi-channel marketing campaigns and donor engagement strategies
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages that align with organizational goals
- Proven ability to develop and execute marketing and fundraising campaigns
- Event planning experience, including coordinating logistics, vendors, and team members
- Proficiency in email marketing platforms, CRM systems, and social media management
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Experience with media relations and public relations strategies
- Familiarity with graphic design, video production, and photography for storytelling purposes
