Job Title: Overnight Staff
Reports To: Executive Director

Position Details: Part-time, 30 hours/week
Salary: $15/hour
Hours: 8pm-8am, 2-4 days a week (Some weekend hours and holiday hours required)
Position Purpose/Summary: Out of the Cold, is a community-supported organization that answers the call to serve those experiencing homelessness by providing shelter, food, and support services during the transition to permanent housing.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
We are looking for two overnight support staff to join our team. Our ideal candidate is independent, take-charge, punctual, and engaged. The position is responsible for the safety and security of the clients and premises of the Out of the Cold overnight shelter. Overnight staff allow Out of the Cold to exist, so we're looking for committed applicants.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Demands a mature, responsible individual. This individual should possess skills in: people management, listening, verbal and written communication, maintaining professional and personal boundaries, conflict resolution and basic computer skills. Must be available for nights, possible weekend hours, on call and some holiday hours. Reliable transportation required or access to public transportation.
Preferred: Skills in social services, demonstrated knowledge of community resources, and an understanding of issues affecting homeless individuals. Knowledge of emergency medical procedures and crisis management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain the safety and security of clients and facilities.
- Complete building checks on an hourly basis (all doors, rooms, alarms, emergency exits, etc.)
- Maintain an active presence in the building by conducting required house checks and a walk through of the building.
- Full understanding of emergency procedures including: fire evacuation, gas and electricity shut off, power failure protocol, etc.
- Keep the facility clean and organized.
- Do a final cleaning of sleeping spaces and bathrooms before departure.
- Remain at post until relieved by another employee. Brief incoming staff regarding all pertinent information. Assist in staff coverage, as needed.
- De-escalate potentially volatile situations between clients when necessary (per agency protocol).
- Maintain telephone coverage during shifts.
- Interact professionally and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients, employees, visitors and guests.
- Follow all agency policies and procedures.
- Document in a log all shelter activities and happenings during the assigned shift.
- Be open minded to change within the work environment.
