What are the responsibilities and job description for the Airport Maintenance Technician (Full Time Day Shift) position at Outagamie County?
Reporting to the Operations Supervisor: Airfield, the Airfield Maintenance Technician performs skilled and semiskilled work in the maintenance of the airfield, buildings, equipment, vehicles and grounds.
Hours: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm with possibilities of overtime
Location: Appleton International Airport
Pay: $25.65/hour - $28.03/hour

- Maintains airfield to FAA standards, including snow and ice removal, turf maintenance, fence repair, and lighting systems upkeep.
- Performs asphalt and concrete laying projects.
- Conducts continuous airfield inspections, looking for foreign objects and non-compliant conditions in accordance with FAR Part 139.
- Ensures compliance with Airport safety and security regulations pertaining to CFR 1542 and the Airport Security Program.
- Assists in maintenance of county owned buildings and airport vehicles and equipment.
- Assists in airfield emergencies by providing information, escorts, gate security, etc.
- Assists in the dissemination of critical information to tenants.
- Provides on-call coverage on a rotational basis.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance, works overtime/extra hours as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school graduate or GED with three years construction, landscaping or over-the-road truck driving experience desired.
- Airport experience and technical school training related to airfield maintenance preferred.
- Or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Ability to hear, speak, walk, stoop, climb ladders, bend, stretch, push, pull, and lift maximum of 100 pounds, understanding and utilizing proper safety equipment and body mechanics.
- Ability to withstand wind, rain, cold, snow, ice, dirt, dust, mud, heat, noise and other environmental factors.
- Ability to use and comprehend standard airport phraseology, and operate a two-way radio.
- Ability to work long hours, up to 12 hour shifts , including evenings, weekends, and holidays during snow and ice removal operations and as other circumstances dictate.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment, including snowblower, snowbroom, plow, front-end loaders, etc.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate decimals and percentages.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to conform to goals, policies, and procedures of the Department as well as the Outagamie County Work Rules and Terms of Employment.
- Ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with passengers, co-workers, tenants and the general public.
- Ability to effectively communicate English and understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to effectively communicate in writing.
- Ability to learn and apply Federal Aviation Regulations.
- Ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets and follow standard safety procedures.
