Outdoor Bank is a fast-growing family-owned Kansas bank seeking a Chief Credit Officer (CCO) to build out and lead the credit discipline. The CCO is responsible for building and maintaining credit quality within the loan portfolio consistent with organizational strategic and financial objectives. The CCO achieves these results through effective leadership and management of the credit team and through collaboration with the Chief Lending Officer, Market Presidents, and other loan and deposit teams. The CCO will define objectives, develop and implement prudent credit policies and practices, deliver management reporting and analysis, and work with other leaders throughout the organization to build a sustainable credit culture.


Duties & Responsibilities

In conjunction with the CEO, Chief Lending Officer, and other bank leaders:

  • Refines, maintains, and oversees the lending policy to support the desired credit culture and operational performance over time.
  • Exercises credit approval authority as an individual approver, where applicable. Regularly attends Regional and Executive Loan Committees as a voting member.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of land lending.
  • Provides oversight of the approval process, including the quality of loan presentations.
  • Develops and oversees the Bank’s internal credit training program, working with credit department staff and external resources. Uses strong management practices to hire, coach and develop the credit team, ensuring that the team remains appropriately staffed.
  • Collaborates with Loan Administration on all aspects of loan operations (portfolio and sold). This includes document preparation, processing and servicing, account reconciliation and reporting functions, post-closing document review and imaging, as well as payoffs, escrow accounting, escrow analysis, draw request, balancing, and disbursing loan funds.
  • Monitors performance of the loan portfolio, including payment delinquencies, risk concentrations and other metrics prudent to management of risk at the portfolio level. Reports on trend data to the Chief Lending Officer and peers and engages with loan officers and other resources to ensure that loans are properly risk rated, and that pertinent information is shared with Chief Lending Officer, Finance, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinates with team members on the collection and liquidation activities, working with internal and external resources to maximize recovery on troubled loans.
  • Stays current on banking regulatory changes, monitors industry best practices and economic trends, provides updates to other members of the team, and ensures that current practices and policies are compliant and appropriate to changing conditions.
  • Demonstrates and maintains proficiency with loan software applications.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field of study.
  • Advanced banking and/or master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience with a trend of increasing responsibility in commercial, agricultural lending, credit, and/or experience with a banking regulatory agency.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in management

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of effective and efficient loan operations and sound credit principles.
  • Experience working with regulators and external auditors.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, coach and develop teams of credit and loan operations professionals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with the ability to write policies, read and understand regulation, and present to small and large groups.
  • Functional knowledge of Laser Pro documents.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Experience leading teams through a core conversion.
  • Demonstrated ability to select and implement spreading software, ideally including AI automated tax spreading software.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and integrate software improving loan workflow process.
  • Familiarity with Jack Henry Core Operating System.  Experience Generating Laser Pro Documents.

The position may sit in our Overland Park or Manhattan, KS office.
