Position Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Lumber Yard Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our lumber yard. The ideal candidate will manage the storage, organization, and distribution of lumber products while ensuring safety and efficiency in all yard activities. This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a deep understanding of lumber products and yard operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision & Leadership:
Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the lumber yard staff, ensuring that all employees are working efficiently and safely. Provide training and development to new and existing team members.
- Inventory Management:
Oversee inventory levels, ensure proper storage and organization of products, and perform regular stock checks to maintain accurate records. Assist in ordering new stock as needed.
- Safety & Compliance:
Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards. Conduct regular safety audits and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
- Customer Service:
Assist customers with their lumber and building materials needs, offering product advice and ensuring timely, accurate order fulfillment. Resolve any customer issues or concerns promptly.
- Equipment & Maintenance:
Monitor and ensure proper operation and maintenance of yard equipment, including forklifts, saws, and trucks. Schedule repairs and maintenance when necessary.
- Logistics & Distribution:
Coordinate the loading, unloading, and delivery of materials. Ensure efficient scheduling and routing of deliveries to meet customer demands.
- Quality Control:
Inspect lumber and building materials to ensure they meet quality standards. Address any damaged or defective materials and arrange for returns or replacements as needed.
- Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of inventory, deliveries, and personnel hours. Report any issues or discrepancies to upper management and assist in developing operational improvements.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in lumber yard operations or a related field.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- This is a Hands on, working Supervisor position. 90% of your time will be outside in the yard directing your team.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Knowledge of lumber products, equipment, and industry standards.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs).
- Familiarity with safety regulations and OSHA standards.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain one is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent (some college or specialized training is a plus).
