What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crane Maintenance Technician position at Outokumpu?
As a global leader in Stainless Steel, we're seeking a dynamic Crane Maintenance Technician and be part of our Cold Rolling Works team in Calvert, Mobile County, Alabama.
In this role you will be responsible for electrical and mechanical maintenance to ensure the proper functioning and operation of all Cranes, Jibs, Monorails, Disconnect for Conductor bar feeds, conductor bar systems and lifting devices throughout the Cold Rolling Works area they are also responsible for all required inspection of the equipment. Support maintenance activities in the event of breakdown, shutdown, and any other planned maintenance as requested as well as perform routine and predictive maintenance activities. The position is of primary importance for shop productivity and most importantly, safety.

Job qualifications and experience requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
- 2 to 4 year technical trade school or apprenticeship program preferred.
- 3 or more years of industrial electrical, mechanical or crane experience required, with proven work experience in an industrial or heavy manufacturing environment. Example: Steel manufacturing, oil/gas industry, paper industry, chemical or automotive industry
- Knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives
- Knowledge of Motors and Motor control stations and Instrumentation
- Knowledge of PLC systems (ABB, Siemens, P80i) preferred
- Must be able to read electrical drawings
- Experience with installing conduit
- Must be able to use various meters (Voltmeter, Oscope)
- Mechanical aptitude in using torque wrenches, drills, hammers, grinders, welders, hydraulic porta-power units, basic knowledge of laser alignment tools, calipers, micrometers, tape measures, band saw, drill press, pipe threading machine, taps/dies, and varies hand tools used to perform mechanical task.
- Demonstrated work experience with the removal/ installation of bearings, replacing, repairing and troubleshooting of lifting systems, understands the principles of lubrication, knowledge of gearbox components and preventative maintenance activities associated with asset reliability.
- Experience with preventive maintenance by identifying and correcting potential issues, lubricating mechanical parts, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and implementing resolution to repair assets.
- Prior experience using Microsoft Office and SAP is a requirement
- Willing to work night shift if need and will to be on call.

Job Responsibilities:
- Maintain the proper electrical and mechanical performance Cranes and all the lifting equipment within CRW area
- Maintain the functionality of power distribution within the Crane systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance activities (All required inspection)
- Assemble, install, and maintain electrical and mechanical systems within the cranes
- Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting when electrical and mechanical problems are encountered.
- Collaborate with Team members as needed to diagnose electrical and mechanical problems and determine how to resolve them
- Record equipment activities and malfunction in SAP in detail.
- Support Crane Operations as needed to meet business objectives.
- Support implementation of Best Practices and Continuous Improvement on the cranes systems
- Maintain environmental and safety compliance requirements.
- Identify safety/environmental hazards and opportunities for improvement, be part of the solution
- Optimize operating practices and procedures.
- Any other activities that may be required, or requested, to support the business.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards
- Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs and ramps) same as ability to walk long distances and demonstrate good balance on uneven terrain or maneuvering obstacles
- Ability to withstand exposure to elevated ambient temperature for extended periods of time
- Must be able to work in extreme heat
- Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, vibrations, dust and asphalt
- Must be able to work in a high noise environment where the use of hearing protection is required
- Ability to frequently use hand or fingers to handle or feel objects/materials
- Ability to work in areas with strong magnetic fields
- Bend, twist, lift, stand, walk, reach, see, move, and hear as required by specific position
- Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms
- Must be able to communicate utilizing radios, phones and/or intercom systems
- Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs. utilizing proper lifting techniques
- Ability to safely use power and hand tools
- Ability to safely operate powered industrial vehicles and equipment for tasks and diagnostic purposes, including overhead cranes.
Salary starts: USD.34.27 hr
