TITLE: Accounting Clerk Internship (Summer) DEPARTMENT: Accounting
STATUS: Part-time Hourly, Temporary REPORTS TO: Director of Finance
JOB SUMMARY: Assist the accounting department with clerical, data entry, bookkeeping and reconciliation, while gaining exposure to accounting principles and processes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Business office with moderate noise environment including but not limited to computers, printers, paging, telephones, and human voices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
1. Customer Service
Treat people fairly, consistently, and with respect.
Ensure efficient, informative, and friendly service according to established customer service vision and standards.
2. Accounting Department Responsibilities
Support all current Accounting Positions as necessary.
Desire to learn and contribute in a team-based environment
Open and sort vendor statements, invoices, and credit memos.
Match and reconcile packing slip receipts to vendor invoices.
Complete Store Sales Journals as Assigned
Break down invoices by sub-department.
Check math on invoices received.
Enter invoices into Great Plains.
File all paid invoices.
Ensure all invoices are logged in.
Contact Vendors as necessary for missing invoices
Proof Invoices
Reconcile Liability or Asset accounts as assigned under supervision of DOF or Accountant
Provide data entry to a variety of platforms as needed, including but not limited to Microsoft Dynamics, Excel, Catapult, and FoodTrak.
3. All Staff Duties
Abide by all Co-op policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other company documents.
Keep store/office orderly and clean.
Maintain a positive attitude.
Perform all other duties as assigned by Director of Finance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Outstanding customer service skills
Basic accounting knowledge helpful
Enrolled in Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree program for Accounting or Finance preferred.
Experience with spreadsheets and accounting software preferred
Computer experience essential; good typing skills
Analytical ability and proficiency in math
Attention to detail, good organizational skills, and extremely accurate
Ability to handle multiple demands, work under time pressures, and meet deadlines
Willingness to be open, to learn, and take on new responsibilities
Ability to follow through on systems and procedures
Demonstrate objectivity, neutrality and calmness
Regular, predictable attendance
Effective communication skills in English
Ability to read and comprehend instructions
Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments
Ability to train other staff
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bending, sitting, reaching
Using hands or fingers to handle or feel
Specific vision ability: close vision, color vision, depth perception, and adjust focus
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
