What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time Substance Abuse Counselor position at Outreach Development Corp.?
Outreach is seeking an experienced and extremely motivated full time Substance Abuse Counselor to work for our outpatient program located at Brentwood/Islip, NY. The SAC is responsible for the delivery and implementation of long term supervision, support and clinical services to a population of chemically dependent clients with co-occurring and mental health problems. The SAC serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
What You Will Do:
- Initial and ongoing screening of resident and resident property in accordance with unit procedure.
- Facilitate group counseling formats on time and in a professional, ethical and caring manner.
- Supervise clients in self-medication (under supervision).
- Communicate all pertinent information, incidents and emergencies using the appropriate system including the SAC communication log, incident reports and 24 hour on-call supervisor.
- Provide crisis interventions and follow up including documentation of the incident, accident and/or elopement reports.
- Overall supervision and management of client population in the facilitation of the daily house schedule.
- Facilitation of service groups.
- Other duties as assigned.
Who You Are:
· Advanced degree required; LMSW, LCSW, LMHC or higher preferred.
- Limited permit or clinical master’s level candidate with relevant experience will be considered; as well as CASAC or higher
- 2-3 years of experience with substance abuse disorders
- 1-2 years of experience working with clients with co-occurring and mental health problems
- 1-2 years of experience working in in an OASAS funded facility a plus
- Experience working with individuals who are severely and persistently mentally ill required- if applicable
- Commitment to providing quality services and outcome driven performance measures.
- Excellent organizational management skills with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance clinicians, set and achieve program objectives.
- Strong networking and public relations skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders, populations, and cultures.
- Action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative approach to program planning.
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
- Experience with AVATAR electronic health records a plus.
- Ability to work a full time flexible schedule: 3 days 9-5p, 2 days 1-9p.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment and outside in the field. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Must be able to travel among assigned sites and locations as needed.
